Production Superintendent (Umbogintwini)

ChemSystems is looking to recruit a Production Superintendent to work in Umbogintwini.

ChemSystems provides chemical products to a diverse range of industries. Construction and Refractory provide chemicals in the building industry. Consumer Specialities supplies a range of speciality and commodity raw materials into the Personal Care, Homecare, Pharmaceutical and Industrial markets. Industrial and Mining manufactures and supplies PVC heat stabilisers, High Performance Lubricants, Industrial Degreasers and an extensive range of chemicals for industrial applications. Paper and Leather supply chemicals to the pulp, paper and leather industries. Timber and Foundry Board supplies resins and associated products to the foundry industry.

Duties & Responsibilities • Manage the entire production process, i.e. from raw material planning, execution of the production plan on time in full, within quality and safety standards, as well as equipment availability and reliability.

  • Responsible and accountable for the effective leadership of the manufacturing team.
  • Responsible for all managerial functions including maintaining disciplined and enabling the development of all production employees.
  • Oversee efficiency optimization by managing the process efficiency, eliminating of all unnecessary expenditure, in-process waste and planning for optimal plant up-time.
  • Manage and direct activities with a focus on creating a safe working environment through a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices and adherence to manufacturing best practices.
  • Strong focus on monitoring and improving plant efficiencies and maintaining tight control of operating budgets and working capital.
  • Capture the production batches onto the Syspro (job entry, job issue and job receipt).
  • Co-ordinate the monthly stock take, generate variance reports and close off stock take using Syspro.
  • Assume subordinate OHS Act responsibilities for the Umbogintwini factory.
  • Manage the manufacturing process so that customers receive excellent quality and service.
  • Maintain the standards of SABS ISO 9001 for all areas of the production facilities.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping and safety standards in the Production Plants.
  • Responsible for implementing world class manufacturing practices in keeping with creating a continuous improvement culture.
  • Develop and track and manage manufacturing budget.
  • Planning shift roster.
  • Plan production to meet customer’s demand.

Qualifications & Experience • Matric.

  • Diploma in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in a process manufacturing environment as a Supervisor or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of safety, quality and environmental best practices and management systems.
  • Strong problem solving skills to identify root causes and implement permanent solutions.
  • Strong manpower skills.
  • Leadership, strong technical capability and good people skills are essential.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work under pressure and work extended hours.
  • Must be able to work within a team environment.
  • IT literate including good working knowledge of Syspro.
