Production Planner

Job Summary

The Production Planner opportunity…

Reporting to the Director of Production & Sourcing, you will be responsible for order placement and monitoring of inventory purchases, coordinating within or between Operations, Product Development, Logistics and Demand Planning departments, and direct import vendors to ensure timely production while minimizing inventory risk. You will ensure quality standards are maintained and oversee quality audit processes with the goal of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Collaborate with Director on order allocation, making recommendations based on capacity and vendor capabilities, while minimizing MOQ surcharges, maximizing margin, limiting inventory risk
  • Send, track and monitor seasonal inventory purchase, including sales samples orders. Manage date and unit adjustments in ERP system
  • Develop calendar, in coordination with Marketing and Product Creation, to ensure packaging artwork and design direction is prepared by the production deadlines required
  • Communicate and problem solve with suppliers on production plan, delivery schedule and associated activities to meet the forecasted requirement
  • Run weekly production status meetings with cross functionally teams. Actively communicate supply changes and recommendations to Operations and Distribution
  • On escalation from Logistics, address ex-works paperwork queries with factory supply planners
  • Assist logistics in optimizing supply solutions for global distribution, including coordinating direct to customer shipments
  • Facilitate factory-applied value added services to meet global supply requirements
  • Partner with Demand Planning team to develop inventory flow strategies to achieve company targets without comprising service levels
  • Work with factories, Logistics and other stakeholders to improve peak season capacity constraints by optimizing physical inventory flow of Raw Materials and Finished Goods
  • Develop calendar, in coordination with Marketing and Product Creation, to ensure packaging artwork and design direction is prepared by the production deadlines required
  • Communicate brand quality standards and ensure these standards are maintained through partnership with vendor base
  • Approve and monitor shipment quality – fabric/trim/packaging
  • Oversee in warehouse quality audit process
  • Identify any gaps in cross functional processes and support improvement with relevant teams

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Business Administration, Supply chain or apparel related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in apparel industry
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Forward thinking and planning; ability to see the big picture
  • Intermediate excel skills
  • Experience in materials, and quality requirements need for apparel production
  • Keen attention to detail and able to stay calm under pressure
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Must have ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Adaptable: adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Copes effectively with complexity and change, often in ambiguity. Seeks out opportunities for development.

  • Experience with ERP systems considered a strong asset
  • 10% international travel required
