TIEM Production Engineering prepares new manufacturing processes and supports production activities by continuously improving safety, quality, and productivity, and reducing downtime and environmental impact. Strategic tasks for Production Engineering include the introduction of new automation to maintain productivity due to an increasingly competitive labor market, the increase of production capacity to meet sales forecasts, and the improvement of material flow within the plant to reduce lead-time and improve safety. Our primary customer is the TIEM Manufacturing Department. Our manufacturing facility includes processes for sheet metal cutting and fabrication, steel saw cutting, CNC machining, press brake and hydraulic press forming, manual and robotic MIG welding, resistance welding, powder coating, painting, assembly, and inspection as well as processes specific to our product including hydraulic cylinder and hose manufacturing.

Production Engineering has experienced significant growth since 2013 to support our strategic objectives and increase our level of process ownership and support. We are currently seeking new qualified full-time members for our team to support our aggressive goals.

Requirements:

  • Strong technical experience with troubleshooting capability and willingness to work hands-on
  • Strong work ethic, intrinsically motivated, ability to organize work and multi-task
  • Computer skills, including the ability to prepare thorough, concise reports and justifications
  • Ability to work professionally with all levels of the organization
  • 2 or 4 year degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (mechanical/industrial/electrical) or vocational education and a minimum of 1 year full-time job experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

Assembly

  • This position will investigate, procure, integrate, and install new equipment to increase production technology and automate processes in Assembly and Material Handling.
  • Technical aspects include the implementation of automatic guided vehicles, selection and implementation of controlled torque tools, and projects including automated conveyors and fail-safe devices which automatically stop production when defects occur.
  • To support strategic objectives this position will study process layout and improve material flow.
  • The position will become the technical expert for the assigned support area and will proactivity identify and improve issues before problems occur.
  • This position requires daily interaction with production Associates and equipment suppliers.
  • This position reports to the Assembly/Paint/Material Handling Production Engineering Supervisor and provides daily support to Manufacturing and Maintenance to resolve process issues.
  • As a member of the Assembly/Paint/Material Handling engineering team, this position will be requested to complete additional duties outside of the assigned support area as project workloads fluctuate.

Machining/Forming

  • This position will support TIEM’s CNC machining and press forming departments to implement new processes and improve existing processes.
  • Experience with sheet metal forming dies and hydraulic presses is preferred.
  • Qualified candidates must have the ability to troubleshoot forming quality issues when they arise and improve process quality to improve weldability including the ability to identify when specific die repair, adjustment, or component replacement is required.
  • Experience with CNC machining, primarily drilling, tapping, and face milling is preferred and experience with Mazak and Fanuc controls is beneficial.
  • Experience with tube bending and press brake forming is helpful but not required.
  • Must have strong capability to prepare documentation to justify and gain approval for new capital projects and major equipment repairs.
  • This position will report to the Welding/Machining/Forming Production Engineering Supervisor and will be assigned an area for daily support. There is a strong potential for growth within the department for highly skilled professional candidates.

Welding

  • This position will investigate, procure, integrate, and install new equipment to increase production technology and automate processes in Welding
  • Technical capabilities that will be required include the ability to prepare concept designs for welding fixtures for new components, ability to improve welding dimensional quality by interpreting inspection reports, and the capability to work with automated welding and conveyance equipment including robotics.
  • The ability to work with controls engineers and equipment suppliers to implement new welding automation projects is required, including the implementation MIG welding robot cells.
  • This position will support strategic objectives to reduce welding man-hours per unit by introducing new automation for processes that are currently welded manually.
  • Experience with robotic MIG welding, especially Motoman robots is preferred but not required.
  • The position will become the technical expert for the assigned support area and will proactivity identify and improve issues before problems occur.
  • This position requires daily interaction with production Associates and equipment suppliers.
  • This position reports to the Welding/Machining/Forming Production Engineering Supervisor and provides daily support to Manufacturing and Maintenance to resolve process issues.

Controls/Automation

The Controls/Automation group in TIEM Production Engineering has three primary roles:

  • Daily Support: Support daily production including the Maintenance Department by improving issues that occur related to PLCs and other electrical controls on manually controlled equipment, automated processes, and robotics. Respond to emergency production issues as they arise when support is requested.
  • Automation Projects: Take the lead role on new capital projects that include a high level of automation and receive support from the process owner in the related engineering group. Prepare specifications and guide the project to successful completion.
  • PE Project Support: Take a support role to capital projects being led by the Production Engineer with ownership of the process that include a moderate level of controls and automation. Ensure clear controls specifications and approved electrical drawings meet company standards. Support equipment run-off and debugging before and during mass production implementation.

  • This position requires experience with controls design and troubleshooting.
  • The applicant must have strong previous experience writing and modifying PLC logic.
  • Qualified candidates understand applicable ANSI, NFPA, and OSHA standards and have the capability to select equipment components and implement safe control systems.
  • Must be willing and eager to pursue new technology as it becomes available from equipment suppliers.
  • Must be willing to work hands-on to replace components, add new process features, and work with urgency to quickly implement countermeasures to production issues.
  • Must have strong capability to prepare concise project justifications and requests for capital investment.
  • The plant is controlled almost exclusively with Omron controllers (few exceptions) and previous experience with Omron PLCs and HMIs is preferred but not required.
  • This position reports to the Controls/Automation Production Engineering Supervisor and will work with a team of experienced controls engineers in multiple processes in the plant.
