PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

Provides the overall support and guidance in product (formulation) development; working to meet the customer and company project objectives. Works cross functionally within the organization to facilitate the successful completion of new products developed and improvement of existing products, ensuring the area functions efficiently and meets customer timelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Condition of employment requires knowledge and conformance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) as applicable to the position.
Participate in meetings and on-site visits as needed with existing and potential clients.
Participates in establishing the performance and quality expectations of our customers’ products.
Prioritize and schedule projects, coordinating with other departments to outline the scope of the projects.
Develop and continue to improve upon internal operating systems.
Provides technical direction and guidance on Formulation Development.
Lead, manage and help establish policies for Formulation Development.
Formulates new products in order to meet the customer and company objectives.
Oversees the development of new solid dosage nutraceutical products (i.e. tablets, capsules, powder fill).
Oversees the transfer of new products from design to production and collaborates with manufacturing engineering, process engineering, quality and other disciplines to ensure consistency of quality output, within tolerances established by customer.
Recommend formulation and specification improvements for better run-ability in production and improving the quality of the finished good.
Provide on-call assistance to plant operations when product run-ability problems occur.
Collaborate with Production and Quality departments to determine the cause(s) and implement corrective action(s) for in-process failures.
Involved in process manufacturing practices; being able to startup/shut down a process, diagnose problems and optimize the process.
Evaluate and improve techniques for process control.
Participates in the evaluation, implementation and training of all new process equipment.
Responsible for advancing company-wide understanding of current manufacturing equipment and processes, and how they are related to the physical properties of our products.
Keep up with the latest technology regarding formulation, equipment and industry knowledge.
Keep current with areas of processing technology.
Keep current with regulatory.
Cover-All Clause – Accept and complete, in a timely fashion, special projects as assigned by the.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS or M.S. in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Chemistry or related degree.
Minimum of 8-10 years related experience formulating dietary supplements.
Extensive knowledge of blending, tablet compression, tablet coating, & granulating processes.
Extensive knowledge of excipient profiles and usage.
Experience and understanding of sophisticated manufacturing systems, techniques and equipment.
