Product Development Engineer

Job Title: Product Development Engineer

Location: Wichita, KS

Reports To: Sr. Manager, Product Development

Summary:

To provide support for New Product Development (NPD) activities including: concept development, design review, data management, prototype development & evaluation, product documentation & specification, project tracking, cost analysis, schedule management, vendor communication and other activities associated with developing new products and their approval for mass production. This position is also a key team member in the maintenance of existing products as well.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Works as a member of a cross-functional team compromised of Design Engineering, Marketing, Industrial Design, Sourcing, Quality, and Product Safety and Compliance. Participates or leads team meetings documenting meeting notes, reporting on project status, task management and ensures appropriate communication and information distribution occurs.
  • Maintains NPD design files, critical project information, and communicates information to internal and external contacts. Responds to internal requests for information regarding design files and documentation.
  • Manages and executes the process for Prototype Samples, Testing and Verification, and Production Approval. Is responsible for collaboration with International Engineers & Vendors for sample procurement, testing, and issues.
  • Provides preliminary feedback of prototype quality and construction. Verifies dimensional measurements against design and regulatory documentation. Creates summary reports for internal and external communication.
  • Supports product documentation including: New Product Setup Request, Design Drawings, Engineering Changes to B.O.M., Product Specification development and maintenance, and technical literature.
  • Utilizes SAP system, as well as others to develop, maintain and communicate product information.
  • Understands and applies regulatory standards and intellectual property procedures. Ensures new product concepts comply with the standards and procedures.
  • Uses internal processes and procedures to request quotes, develop documentation and communicate with team.
  • Works closely with international Project Engineer to manage activities at international vendors.
  • Is responsible for problem solving and other various project assignments.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Management.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • College Degree in related Engineering field or similar required.
  • 0 – 5 years project experience, preferably with consumer products and manufacturing.
  • Strong written and verbal skills as well as interpersonal skills with the ability to work will with all levels of personnel.
  • Must be detail oriented, accurate and possess excellent organization skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office required; SAP, CAD or Adobe Illustrator experience a plus.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks. Must have the ability to gather, research, analyze and make decisions.
  • Flexible in working overtime when needed.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and be self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed, international travel included.
