Job Summary
American Colloid Company a division of Minerals Technologies is one of the world’s leading producers of
bentonite clay. Bentonite’s unique chemical structure gives it a diverse range of capabilities, enabling it to act as
a thickener, sealant, binder, lubricant or absorption agent. The Company’s principle markets include metal
castings, pet products, oil and gas well drilling, industrial specialties and agriculture. ACC currently has an
opening for a Process / Product Engineer located in its Colony, WY Production Facility (20 miles West of Belle
Fourche, SD).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The role of the Process/Product Engineer is to evaluate existing processes and implement solutions that will
improve safety, quality, and productivity. They are part of a team that will maintain reliable and safe
manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, and costs. This position requires
a thorough knowledge of chemical engineering and mechanical/industrial practices.
Typical Duties:

• Daily monitoring and reporting of Plant Processes
• Analysis of operating data – develop, prioritize, and implement improvement solutions
• Daily interactions with Plant Operations and Maintenance Personnel
• Material and Energy Balances
• Product and Customer Evaluations
• Root Cause Analysis (Cause Maps)
• Develop/Update Operator Training Manuals
• Initiate and Implement Capital Project

OE/Lean

• Training in all OE components. Metrics of Voice of customer, Gross profit generated, Customer
profitability will be utilized. Utilization of lean tools to improve efficiency.

Qualifications/Requirements
Education: BS in Chemical Engineering preferred – other disciplines considered
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to prioritize and multitask in fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work with a wide range of individuals
• Strong communication skills

Physical Abilities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability
to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand
English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional
manner, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately, work independently and with others,
communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze
information/situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a
situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary.
On a frequent basis, there may be exposure to plant areas, which include exposure to outside weather conditions
as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes.
