Principal Engineer

This position provides opportunities for Engineering Leadership on the existing Air Force Improved Performance Technology Engine (IPTE), and Army’s Alternate Concept Engine (ACE) Technology Demonstrator (jointly managed by Honeywell and P&W through Advanced Turbine Engine Company (ATEC) Programs. This position provides a Team Leadership opportunity for one of the Demonstrator Programs with efforts planned over next 5 Years. Responsibilities include design and development of an assigned module, Gearbox or Controls, Accessories & Externals (CAE), within budgets & schedule, and assistance to Program Manager. It includes all aspects of concept, preliminary and detail designs; hardware procurement; and Rigs & Engines testing. Requires to work with cross-functional team members and management to accomplish the Module & assigned tasks’ goals within budget and on schedule.
Responsible for the Module technical goals accomplishment through module’s design & development over several years with budget of >$1 M/ year and with a span of influence >5 engineers (broad). Reports directly to the Demonstrators Group Leader. Must work closely with Demonstrator team members as well as broader Engineering team for the success of the Demonstrator Program.

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 8 years of experience in Gas Turbine development; experience must include Project Management, Program Management or Technical Design and Analysis experience
WE VALUE
  • M.Sc. in Engineering
  • Technical expertise in Gas Turbine design and/or development
  • Design for Six Sigma Certification
  • Project Management including leadership, project initiation, planning, scheduling, cost management, control and close-out skills
  • Familiarity with IPDS Process
  • Specific skills in SAP, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Verbal & Written Communication skills including, presentation and documentation
  • Persistent in the face of failure, confident in the face of ambiguity, innovative in the face of challenge, and relentless in the drive to success
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities working with all aspects of engineering, project and customer management, along with supporting functional organizations
  • Skill to track key performance metrics for measuring improvements in engineering design quality and deliver, and ability to improve processes
  • Strong decision-making capability, even with information that is limited or ambiguous
  • Ability to drive development of a responsive organization, which consistently meets technical, schedule and budgetary commitments
  • Able to develop and deploy a high-performance team of engineers, mentors and coaches to maintain a high level of performance and employee satisfaction
