The Principal Designer is responsible for the visual expression of the ICA’s brand. Candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple print and digital design projects and serving numerous internal clients within the organization. The designer conceives and produces designs while managing freelance designers and production schedules.

  • Responsible for applying the ICA brand consistently and creatively from style, type and layout across all creative executions. Oversees brand interpretation by freelance designers and ICA staff.
  • Designs promotional and interpretive materials including advertisements, publications, signage, invitations, brochures, web graphics, and e-mails within the ICA brand parameters.
  • Assume full responsibility for all projects from conception and presentation through layout and production, prioritizing and managing in a deadline oriented environment
  • Manage project production schedules, identify and gather assets for design projects, monitor deadlines, gather specs and details, work with and research vendors.
  • Collaborate with Marketing team to identify projects, establish production schedule, and budgeting
  • Manage design quality standards and ICA creative needs
  • Promote continual creative advances at the Museum

Requirements:

  • BA in Graphic Design and minimum of 5-7 years of print and digital design
  • Demonstrated understanding of brands and brand management
  • Possess strong production values and techniques, with a background in typography, knowledge of color management, creating advertising, magazine and publication
  • Organized, motivated self-starter, proactively seeks solutions is able to work all levels of the organization
  • Possess the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines
  • Ability to think and communicate at a conceptual and tactical/detail level
  • Understanding non-profit industry and mission driven environment a plus
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop; knowledge of digital/web/animation helpful
