As a Principal BI Developer you will work with your product team to develop customer-centric digital software products from idea to production. This is a fast-paced environment providing rapid delivery for our business partners. Liberty Mutual Global Specialty IT is actively searching for a Principal Software Developer with a background in Microsoft BI technologies. Global Specialty IT provides support and operations for all global specialty lines including Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), and Liberty Mutual Surety (LMS) across 19 countries, through one unified IT team. In this position, you will work closely with architects, business analysts and other developers to build highly effective business intelligence solutions. In addition to coding and testing, responsibilities can include presenting designs for architect reviews to meeting with external service providers to define interfaces. About the job:

• Design, develop, and document highly complex technical solutions in a Microsoft business intelligence environment (SSIS, SSAS, SQL Server, and SSRS).
• Provide ongoing performance monitoring and tuning, and automation of production activities related to Data Warehouse, ETL and BI environment
• Work in conjunction with business analysts and other users acting as a liaison between technical and business departments in developing dashboards and other BI related solutions.
• Extract complex data from multiple sources into usable and meaningful reports and analyses
• Design, develop and test high-quality Extract, Transformation and Load (ETL) processes, programs and scripts
• Troubleshoot data integration issues and bugs, analyze reasons for failure, implement optimal solutions, and revise procedures and documentation as needed
• Mentor and support other Data Warehouse & BI Developers
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for the development and production teams
• Support user community on data analytics when needed
• Develops guidelines and standards.

Desired skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred. Generally 8+ years of professional experience. Highly proficient in software engineering languages and tools; ability to develop on multiple platforms.
• Business intelligence/data warehousing technology skills with proven expertise in Microsoft BI stack (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, .Net, Visual Studio, TFS & PowerBI)
• Any Big Data experience (e.g. Hadoop, Hive, etc.) is a definite plus as is any cloud services such as AWS, Azure, etc.
• Experience working in a fast paced, high energy environment; Agile/Scrum experience is a strong plus.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies. Thorough knowledge of diverse technologies and new technical architecture principles and concepts.
• Thorough understanding of layered systems architectures and layered solutions and designs. Highly proficient in software engineering languages and tools; ability to develop on multiple platforms.
• Thorough knowledge of a business function(s) and I/T industry business issues; extensive knowledge of business operations, strategies and objectives.
• Strong negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; presentation skills.

Highly competitive applicants will have:

• Technology experience in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
• Strong leadership skills;
• Experience in the Insurance industry
• Data modeling & architecture expertise with EDW methodologies such as Kimball v. Inman
• Experience with Microsoft BI technologies is highly preferred
• Experience with ETL/data integration methodologies and patterns
• Knowledge of BI tools like Tableau, Hyperion, SSAS; and advanced analytic tools like SAS
• Experience integrating new technologies (e.g., Hadoop) with traditional RDBMS
