Principal Application Analyst

Position Overview:
The Principal Analyst designs, develops and maintains complex applications and their operating environments. Acts as a technical leader in IT for systems and is a business resource and process expert within the company. Provides system understanding and architectural support in the implementation operation and tuning of systems & applications. The Principal Analyst reviews and evaluates plans for major projects and initiatives to ensure they meet system needs. Coordinates the monitoring of major changes to applications and their operating environment. Analyzes any issues of high complexity. Assignments require limited supervision and guidance.

Essential Job functions:

Designs, codes and implements applications or support subsystems to meet business requirements.

Participates in projects as a subject matter expert.

Possesses a problem-solving mentality with curiosity and a drive to learn.

Experience troubleshooting and configuring operational systems.

Influences technical management in the area of application planning, system design, and product selection.

Independently performs application problem resolution.

Escalates and notifies management of problems that impact the business.

Determines business oriented solutions to reported problems, identifying pro and cons of each solution.

Recommends technical solutions to reported problems, identifying pros and cons of each solution.

Recommends, develops and implements tools to proactively monitor the applications and systems to identify problems as soon as possible.

Manages complex projects.

Assists in the work-loading of projects by providing designs & estimates.

Provides mentorship and on the job training for junior analysts.

Provide input in developing project plans and schedules.

Lead requirement analysis, design, development and implementation activities.

Propose new techniques and technologies for software development.

Provide on-call support for new and existing applications as required.

Provide assistance to Junior Developers when needed.

Develop coding documentation and other technical specifications.

Act as a primary contact for development queries and concerns.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems or similar relevant field of study.

Minimum of 10 years of previous business analysis or application development experience.

Thoroughly understands the principles and concepts of the key technology in use at location, including, processing systems, business applications, business processes, and security.

Expert knowledge of .NET, C#, and various Web Development technologies.

Experience with MS SQL, data analysis and knowledge of SQL database administration.

Understands the general functional capabilities of all deployed applications and technology.

Is considered an expert in two or more application/business disciplines or related systems disciplines (such as business process, application development, database management, application performance, etc.).

Familiar with alternative solutions and systems to those deployed.

Ability to adapt to change in the workplace or assignment of duties.

Other Skills / Abilities:

Financial industry experience strongly desired.

Able to analyze inter-related difficult/complicated situations with careful attention to detail as it fits into the larger picture.

Understands telecommunications and computer systems terminology.

Advanced knowledge of computer networking concepts.

Strong, proactive and creative problem-solving skills.

Able to effectively handle and manage multiple complex tasks within specific time frames.

Able to easily and positively adjust to changing priorities and department processes.

Ability to maintain composure and work professionally and effectively in high-pressure situations.

Is capable of managing multiple problem resolutions or projects simultaneously.
