Police Desk Clerk

Police Desk Clerks provide extensive customer service to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Many of the contacts are sensitive, stressful and confidential in nature. A Police Desk Clerk assists officers within the Bureau by accessing and supplying confidential information and administrative support. Therefore, incumbents are required to pass an in-depth background investigation. Services to the public include, but are not limited to, responding to inquiries and complaints both in person and over the phone. A successful candidate must be able to remain calm in emergency or highly volatile situations. Responsibilities include: performing multiple tasks while dealing with frequent interruptions, accessing a variety of computer systems in order to provide support to officers and the public, as well as researching, retrieving and reporting information as needed. Positions are located in the three (3) precincts (East, North, and Central) as well as the Training Division within the Police Bureau. Police Desk Clerks are expected to carry out their individual responsibilities with initiative, independence and creativity. Police Desk Clerks must exhibit integrity, honesty, punctuality and regular work attendance. Police Desk Clerks must obtain Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) Certification within three (3) months of hire. Some Police Desk Clerks work in a 24-hour facility, which may require working day, evening or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays.

TO QUALIFY:
The following minimum qualifications that are required for this position: Ability and experience rapidly assessing critical and stressful situations involving the public using sound judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills; identifying issues and alternative solutions. Ability and experience adapting to diverse situations and people while establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships. Ability and experience managing priorities using various multi-tasking skills. Knowledge and experience using multiple computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and other databases in order to provide information to officers and the public as appropriate. Skill and experience utilizing written and oral communication skills and strong attention to detail. Ability and experience learning and communicating rules, regulations and procedures to properly inform the public. Applicants must also possess: Ability to successfully pass an in-depth background investigation. Ability to be LEDS certified within 3 months of hire.
