Planning Analyst I

Metro is seeking a Planning Analyst I to oversee the analysis of data related to the performance of the transit system. Provide written summaries of the systems performance and recommendations for improved services. Analyse and present geographic data and other data related to the service planning by managing the GIS solutions and defining optimal tools for service planning so as to achieve effective knowledge management and support Metro and bus service planning and intermodal integration.

JOB DUTIES

  • Contribute to the translation of the Service Planning strategy into operational and business plans for GIS data capture and analysis that help meet Service Planning needs
  • Contribute to the development of the Service Planning and Analysis functional budget in order to ensure alignment with budget guidelines and departmental strategic and business plans
  • Manage the use of Metro’s GIS system to capture, analyze and present geographic data and other data related to service planning in order to provide the proper support to the planning function
  • Use GIS/Excel (and other) systems to support with short and long term route and service planning activities related to bus and Metro operations
  • Serve as reference for all land data and manage GIS (geographic information system)
  • Plot field data, constructs maps, and prepares reports to ensure providing the adequate support to the service planning function
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on transit system performance including on-time performance, ridership, miles, and hours
  • Assist with planning activities
  • Develop forecasting and budget models for transit related services including passengers, fares, miles, and hours.
  • Assist in preparing and processing annual transit data in a manner that meets the National Transit Database requirements
  • Participate in public input meetings, public hearings, and other forums
  • Serve on internal and external committees related to regional planning, public transportation, and similar areas..
  • Assist as assigned in special studies and projects
  • Monitor, analyze and maintain SORTA’s automated passenger counting (APC) reporting systems
  • Assist in the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and department performance goals and objectives, monitor results, and recognize employee, department and organization accomplishments
  • Model, facilitate and encourage exemplary internal and external customer service, open communication, collaboration, participation and professional development among staff

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in Geography, Logistics, Planning or related field)
  • 6-12 months related experience
  • Advanced working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, ArcGIS, and email. Some working knowledge in database systems (Access) preferred
