Piping Designer/Draftsman

The CAD Drafter/Designer employs a range of creative design and engineering skills for a variety of applications including piping, equipment, civil/structural and other special projects as needed. Primary deliverables are drawings and designs for installation of piping, electrical or other construction related functions. Prepares sketches, creates drawings and illustrations of machine components or systems using computer aided design (CAD) equipment.

Creates and modifies model files, sketches, parts book illustrations, and bills of material. Collects and analyzes technical information received from engineers, architects, designers, suppliers, technical documents, operation of equipment, etc. Under limited supervision, works independently on the development of original designs or adaptations requiring very specialized experience.

Prepares isometrics, flow diagrams and equipment layouts that show the details for a wide variety of equipment, piping and electrical systems. These layouts indicate dimensions, construction methods, and other requirements needed for assembly. The position is also responsible for P&ID reviews and revisions.

Position Responsibilities

  • Recognizes and communicates scope and design changes promptly.
  • Provides on-site assistance during startup.
  • Coordinates work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead.
  • Produces detail design calculations and sketches for equipment associated with the project.
  • Developes conceptual layouts and bill of materials for small projects
  • Assists other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings and specifications into a “package”, enabling purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
  • Reviews and checks vendor drawings and other discipline drawings
  • Performs fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
  • Maintains P&IDs and Flow Diagrams by ensuring all appropriate electronic and hard copies are current.
  • Performs field measurements including the use of surveying equipment
  • Develops Bills of Materials for drawings and equipment modifications
  • Maintains compliance to Methanol Project Standards for piping and equipment design.
  • Ensures all documentations are accurate and up to date reflecting equipment and piping systems in the field in compliance with Management of Change Process (MOC)
  • Tracks KPIs associated with project management
  • Prioritizes and delivers results for multiple projects, for multiple customers
  • Collaborates with engineers and maintenance to deliver piping documentation
  • Conducts all business in a manner which supports the Responsible Care® ethic

Position Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Industrial Technology from an accredited university.

• OR, an Associates Degree in Drafting or Engineering, with at least 3 years of relavent working experience required.

1-12 years of relavent industrial experience

• Working knowledge of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards

• Ability to read and interpret PFD’s, P&ID’s and instrument loop sheets.

• Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Proficient in the use of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Micro station or both.

• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
