PHP Developer – Entry Level

**This position is based in Schaumburg, IL. Only local candidates will be considered!**

Position Summary:

The PHP Developer will work with the Individual Performance Solution team to eventually support all aspects of our proprietary software. You will also be responsible for integrating the front-end elements built by your co-workers into the application. Therefore, a basic understanding of front-end technologies is necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Write “clean,”well-designed code
  • Produce detailed specifications.
  • Work with stakeholders and other development team members to translate business/client needs into requirements.
  • Is responsible for the integration of user-facing elements.
  • Build efficient, testable, and reusable PHP modules.
  • Solve complex performance problems and architectural challenges.
  • Is responsible for integration of data storage solutions, SQL database.
  • Follow industry best practice.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related degree
  • Knowledge of object oriented PHP programming
  • Familiarity of PHP web frameworks
  • Familiarity with limitations of PHP as a platform and its workarounds
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and their declarative query languages
  • Must strive for proper code format and program design structure

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of MVC design patterns
  • Understanding the fully synchronous behavior of PHP
  • Understanding accessibility and security compliance
  • Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • User authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
  • Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
  • Understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git

  • Work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team environment with dedicated project managers.
  • Build and customize eCommerce websites using the Magento EE & CE platform, following Magento best practices.
  • Maintain client repositories using GIT SCM while helping us advance our deploy process.
  • Build complex integrations with various systems such as ERPs, taxes, shipping, and financial software.

Must Have:

  • Experience developing on the LAMP Stack with exceptional knowledge of PHP (OOP), HTML, CSS, jQuery, Javascript, & MySQL.
  • Strong communication skills (written & spoken).
  • Track record of producing clean, efficient, and standards compliant code.
  • Experience with one or more SCM technologies. GIT is a huge plus.
  • Linux experience and the ability to use shell/CLI.
  • Strong experience working with frameworks such as Zend, Code Igniter, Symphony, etc.
  • Comfortable working with REST, XML, and other API driven technologies.
  • Familiar with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in team-based web development
  • MUST be local to Atlanta, GA area or be willing to relocate.
  • BA Degree in Computer Science or related field.

Stuff that would Impress us:

  • eCommerce development experience, specifically Magento and/or Shopify.
  • Active community contributions to open source projects.
  • Experience with non LAMP technologies such as SQL, .NET, Java, etc.
  • You currently hold shuffleboard and/or ping-pong bragging rights.
