Payroll & Benefits Specialist

Responsibilities:
Performs all activities necessary to process a bi-weekly company-wide payroll, including verifying and maintaining related timecard records; updating and filing tax reports; processing voluntary and involuntary deductions, including garnishments and levies; preparing accounting transactions and documents; documenting and updating procedures and preparing reports for management.

Investigates payroll questions and concerns, interprets payroll policies and procedures and works with department management to resolve issues.

Administers group health insurance, life, disability, paid time off, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans and any other benefits offered by the organization.

Supports new hire orientation and open enrollment with the preparation of benefits communication and educational materials. Conducts new employee benefit orientation and prepares benefit renewal presentations.

Assists with benefit renewal process by performing analysis regarding pricing and plan design and incorporating plan changes in the HRIS, including payroll, and coordinating such changes with all applicable carriers.

Processes and audits all payroll and benefit related data in the department’s HRIS. Performs quality checks to ensure all demographic and profile data, including salaries, deductions, status changes, etc. is accurate and complete.

Coordinates Wellness Committee meetings and activities and assist with preparing the annual budget, plans and other related functions for all committee governance.

Manage the company’s Leave of Absence process, including educating employees and managers, sending/receiving proper documentation, collecting benefit premiums and coordinating the return to work process. Handles all ACA compliance issues and files required reports and statistical data as directed.

Administers the Workers Compensation policy, including giving authorization for health care visits, reporting information to the insurance company and coordinating the return to work.

Coordinates year-end and annual payroll, health insurance, retirement and workers compensation audits with third party auditors, vendors and other professionals involved in the process.

Ensures organizational compliance with federal and state regulations and laws.

Demonstrates ethical conduct and maintains the integrity of Human Resource practices and company programs.

Education

Required

Bachelors or better in Human Resource Administration or related field.

Experience

Required

  • Strong customer service focus and high degree of responsiveness to internal and external partners.
  • Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, Workers Compensation, ACA, FLSA, DOL and other related regulations and requirements.

4 years: • Payroll and related benefits administration experience for 300 or more employees.

Preferred

  • Benefit and/or payroll related professional certification preferred.
