Payroll Accountant

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for a mid-size ($50 million) company with multi-state operations. They must be highly organized and experienced professional as payroll accountant, responsible for supporting weekly multi-state payroll
functions, including related federal, state and local payroll tax reporting. Prior experience with Service Contract Act, Davis-Bacon Act, and/or Collective Bargaining Agreement payroll a plus. This individual must have the ability to perform “hands-on” payroll
processing in a highly automated environment. Ability to understand the big picture including general accounting practices, journal entries and general ledger accounts. Individual must have an eagerness to tackle new and difficult challenges that arise from
working in a growing, multi-state, fast paced organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data

• Typically uses automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll

• Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

• Responsible for accuracy and integrity of G/L Accounts applicable to payroll

• Planning and organization: an ability to plan and manage multiple projects

• Strong customer orientation

• Attention to detail

• Problem analysis and problem resolution

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• High performance teams and a strong team player

• Computer proficiency: Word, Excel and Outlook and in-house payroll systems

• Related work experience in payroll

• Balance Sheet reconciliation of payroll-related accounts

• Is responsible for other duties assigned by management

• Highly organized

• Payroll taxes for multi-state operations

• Familiar with GAAP and standard bookkeeping concepts, practices and procedures.

• Payroll and associated multi-state payroll activities

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

• High School Diploma or GED

• Experience with automated payroll systems, multi-state experience preferable

• Experience with mid- to large accounting software/ERP systems such as Costpoint, Viewpoint, Deltek, or similar system

• Proficiency with ACH transactions

• Proficiency in MS Excel, MSWord, and Outlook

• Current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of the work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing up to forty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception
and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
