Part-time Bookkeeper

Range Systems has been an industry-leading provider of shooting range systems and equipment for over two decades. We work with architects, construction contractors and range owners on firing range projects, from customized shoot houses to commercial home ranges. Continued rapid growth has created the new for a part-time Bookkeeper in our Accounting Department.

Position Details:

Under the general direction of the Controller the primary responsibilities of the part-time Bookkeeper are to perform a variety of routine and on-routine clerical accounting functions in one or more of the following areas: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, or a related financial area. Assist with bank reconciliations, post information, and balances general and subsidiary ledgers, process general ledger entries and may compile segments of the monthly closing process. This position may contact other departments and/or outside parties to resolve problems and/or issues.

Hours of work expected for this position are 16 to 24 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under the general direction of the Controller, perform a variety of routine and non-routine clerical accounting functions in accordance with standard procedures in one or more of the following areas: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting or a related financial area
  • Understand the strategy, vision and expansion model of the organization including a basic understanding of Range Systems’ business; be aware of and help to enforce organizational policies and best practices procedures
  • Assist in the preparation of bank reconciliations, post information, and balances general and subsidiary ledgers, process general ledger entries and may compile segments of the monthly closing process. Collate payment and prepare for deposit
  • Audit, code, and verify invoices in compliance with Range Systems’ policies and contracts/purchase terms; audit invoices for supporting documentation and approved purchases
  • Organize payable vouchers for routing and timely follow up for approval; following up on missing documentations required on invoices. Enter vendor invoices and check requests into Accounting Systems on a timely basis. Print approved checks weekly, and more frequently as needed
  • Create invoices based on billing information; review invoices for mathematical accuracy and resolve discrepancies on a timely basis. Maintain and update Accounts Receivable Schedule regularly; enter pre-approved journal entries into Accounting System
  • Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable subsidiary ledger accounts to general ledger; resolve payable discrepancies on a timely basis
  • Collect and organize supporting documents for billing files used by Accounting Department; maintain vendor files in Accounting System, and all payable files; assist in record retention for Accounting as needed
  • Consistently support the general direction, initiatives and specific final decisions of the Executive team in all aspects of the business; use influence sensitively to garner cooperation of management and co-workers. Maintain service excellence
  • Generate goodwill for the organization and its management among staff, clients, supplies, referral sources, regulatory bodies, the general community and others pertinent to the business; demonstrate a strong commitment to client service and service excellence
  • Work daily and effectively to balance stress of multiple projects, conflicting priorities, substantial workload, environmental ambiguity and changing plans through self-management and productive communication with the Executive team regarding needs for support
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is an essential requirement of this position
  • Perform other duties in the scope of the job as required by the Controller

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Associate degree in Accounting (2 year minimum) plus two years’ experience in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting and bookkeeping principles
  • Demonstrated skill and working knowledge with Windows-based computer applications (specifically Word, Outlook and Excel Software) and other Accounting-related software and office equipment
  • Excellent conceptual thinking skills and the ability to identify and analyze complex and sensitive issues, problems and conflicts and to use independent judgement to make decisions, and to recommend and/or implement solutions
  • Ability to listen and communication clearly, fluently and diplomatically orally and in writing in the English language; also to maintain excellent interpersonal and cooperative relationships with management, staff and clients
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and accurately follow through on work activities with time constraints and interruptions to meet deadlines as well as to work independently with a minimum amount of direction and/or supervision
  • Ability to remain flexible, resilient, calm, maintain a sense of humor and to regularly present a well-groomed, professional image
