Paid Summer Internship, The Museum of Flight

Reports to: Project Manager, Boeing Academy for STEM Learning

Compensation: Grade Level 5; Basic Benefits

Internship (10-week program), up to 40 hours /week, hourly, non-exempt position

Direct Reports: None

General Function:

Primary responsibility will be to provide administrative support for the various educational programs offered through the Boeing Academy for STEM Learning, such as Private Pilot Ground School, a class called Take Off! Flight & Engineering program, and a youth membership program called Connections. This person must be committed to representing The Museum of Flight’s Vision and Mission with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be at least 16 years old currently attending High School or College, or possess a High School Diploma.

Experience: Previous work experience not required

Knowledge & Skills:

· Knowledge of office management systems and procedures

· Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines

· Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)

· Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work

· Attention to detail and problem solving skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task

· Ability to work in a team-based environment as well as independently with self-initiative and minimal supervision

· General understanding of museum operations and organization

· Knowledge of/interest in aviation and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)

Museum Specific Qualifications:

· Candidate for internship must be able to pass a criminal background check

· Customer service/client driven focus with a positive collaborative solution based attitude that stays within and upholds Museum’s policies and procedures

· Onsite attendance is essential to perform the duties of this position

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule throughout the week

Essential Job Functions:

1. Assist in the maintenance of the online student database, including adding new members and running reports

2. Prepare materials for education programs

3. Attend and provide support for occasional planned events

4. Communicate and coordinate with internal departments

5. Act as a point of contact for teachers, students, and their guardians for specialized programs

6. Assist with education programs and event planning

7. Provide general support to education staff and Museum learners as needed

8. Keep information confidential and be reliable and dependable

9. Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

The Boeing Academy for STEM Learning Intern’s weekly schedule is Monday through Friday with an anticipated start date of June 12 through August 18, 2017. This internship position requires one to be available to work up to 40 or more hours per week throughout the 10-week internship. Generally, work hours for this position will be scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Any hours worked over 40 per week must be preauthorized by your supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds with little assistance

· Normal office conditions apply, including repetitive wrist and arm movement, including long periods of sitting or standing

· The ability to focus, bend, carry, reach to the side, front and overhead, push, pull, focus, walk, stand, twist and squat are all occasional requirements in a normal office setting

Travel:

· No travel is expected for this position
