The Packaging Designer’s primary focus will be to create designs that address customer needs and support Dura-Fibre’s strategic plan, especially specialty laminated and converted products. Collaborate in the resolution of customer issues, keeping the controlled document process current at all times and working with the sales team and production to use equipment differently to optimize existing and new business.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Actively support the Dura-Fibre strategic plan.
  • Communicate and implement the Dura-Fibre guiding principles through leading by example and participation in training.
  • Develop designs using our unique material capabilities creating niche opportunities for our materials and processes.
  • Actively manage outside vendors for best pricing and customer service.
  • Become an expert in understanding alternative materials and their uses at Dura-Fibre.
  • Work cooperatively and collaborate with New Product Development and Custom Product Engineer in creating new products and markets
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other designers and design firms to keep a network of people that can be used for ideas and information.
  • Create general samples requested through customer calls and internal generated call reports.
  • Make joint calls with Sales to assist in delivering/launching new and existing products.
  • Act as a “go-to” person for resolution of technical issues with regard to components and constructions.
  • Participate in sales meetings.
  • Business travel 10% to customers and suppliers
  • Order accurate die boards and follow their delivery information resulting in the receipt of die boards on time for production.
  • Develop and maintain the controlled document process for drawings.
  • Develop and implement an annual plan necessary to support the strategic plan.
  • Act as the champion for projects assigned from inception to completion, holding complete responsibility for each step and outcome.

Education and Experience Required:

  • A minimum of a four year degree in packaging design or package engineering
  • 2+ years of CAD or equivalent software experience
  • 2-4 years experience in the paper/packaging industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of general business principles with ability to apply concepts
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated, with good time management skills.
  • Decisive in ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use acquired data to facilitate good judgment and decision making
  • Ability to work well with others to optimize business opportunities

  • Collaboration as primary ‘style’ with effective use of problem solving tools and processes.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and CAD systems.
