Oracle Database Administrator

Description

Join a small team of other platform cross trained DBA’s to support the local region and Kaiser Permanente’s national systems.

The Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for providing technical expertise in the analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of an existing 2 node Standard Edition RAC system and a couple of single instances. Position requires critical thinking and problem solving abilities to address complex issues.

Candidate must help resolve architectural issues in the environment and database infrastructure; specifically the database architecture (schema design, indexing strategies), application functionality (identifying changes to improve performance) and hardware setup and configuration.

The candidate will work with a cross-section of organizations, including other DBAs, systems engineers, developers and the management team.

Desired Qualifications:
Solid knowledge of Oracle RMDBS internals

Strong Database Administration and SQL skills

Strong troubleshooting skills

Hands on experience with performance tuning

Daily administration activities such as storage layout, RMAN: hot and cold backup, RMAN duplicate databases, patching (PSU, CPU), maintenance, upgrades, and access control

Proficient with automation of maintenance tasks using PL/SQL and scripting tools such as shell script, Perl and ksh

Qualifications

Education

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor of Arts degree or certificate program in computer sciences or equivalent experience.

Preferred Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science.

Knowledge/Skills

Minimum Knowledge/Skills Requirements

Advanced In-depth understanding of database administration in an enterprise environment.

Advanced technical understanding of client/server computer platforms and operating systems.

Advanced skills in the use of Structured Query Language (SQL).

Work with a small team to provide enterprise-wide, Oracle Database Administration support for production systems and provide DBA services to application development teams, including database design, database generation, coding, and database production support.

Provide DBA support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness.

Participate in researching, evaluating, designing, testing, recommending, and planning implementation of new versions of Oracle database and database tools.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills

Advanced Database administration in multiple enterprise database management systems. In-depth working knowledge of the enterprise operating systems. Proficiency in database coding in an enterprise environment.

Experience

Minimum Experience Requirements

9 years Information Technology experience with 6 years as an enterprise database administrator.

Work with a small team to provide enterprise-wide, Oracle Database Administration support for production systems and provide DBA services to application development teams, including database design, database generation, coding, and database production support.

Provide DBA support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness.

Participate in researching, evaluating, designing, testing, recommending, and planning implementation of new versions of Oracle database and database tools.

Preferred Experience

Other Experience Database administration experience with relational DBMS, e.g. DB2, Sybase, Oracle, MS SQL Server.
