Job Summary

Come join an outstanding engineering organization in pursuit of operational excellence! We are looking for an innovative and skilled Operations Engineer with experience supporting SaaS environments. This enthusiastic engineer will help us build and maintain our production operations, integrations with third party systems, and to drive the transition to a robust services-oriented platform.

PeopleAdmin hosts a suite of cloud¬-based SaaS products, which revolve around applicant tracking and talent management for higher education, K12, and government agencies. These tools are used by millions of users and applicants across thousands of institutions. Our customers utilize our suite of products for its unique functionality and tight integrations with external third party applications such as HRIS, payroll systems, background check providers, and job board systems.

This opportunity is for a naturally skilled Operations Engineer to join a fast paced, highly skilled and dynamic team of technical professionals delivering services and products to customers supporting our education job markets. Successful candidates will have a keen interest and aptitude for technical solutions, automation and consistent operations. Focus on efficient and robust programs and processes for supporting maximum uptime and throughput while ensuring CI and CD of enterprise applications. This DevOps role will be able to demonstrate their technical chops daily and encouraged to challenge the status quo and rethink possibilities.

Responsibilities

As an Operations Engineer, you will be a member of the team responsible for fostering a DevOps culture throughout the organization. This includes ensuring product reliability, building environment automation, and enabling engineering best practices. As stewards of our infrastructure, Operations Engineers are tasked with managing and improving our application environments to ensure world class levels of availability and reliability for our customers.

Some areas of focus include:

  • Automation of infrastructure provisioning
  • Strategies for improving and optimizing the Continuous Delivery processes
  • Securely manage and monitor multiple production environments
  • Infrastructure resource and cost management
  • Providing Cloud PaaS expertise to the rest of engineering organization
  • Qualifications
  • Candidate is familiar with Windows and Linux systems (Debian/Ubuntu)
  • Experience with AWS and cloud architectures
  • Experience with Configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet and/or Ansible (Chef is a bonus!)
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools like Nagios, Sensu, New Relic, or Grafana. (Sensu/New Relic is a bonus!)
  • Experience with SCM (Git is a bonus!)
  • Experience with Automation tools such as Jenkins, Rundeck, etc…
  • Experience with continuous delivery tools such as Capistrano, Gradle
  • Experience with container orchestration frameworks such as Swarm, or Rancher a plus!
  • Demonstrated ability to merge hosted ops to cloud resources

Skills/Experience

  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Must be self-motivated and take initiative in performing tasks
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Subscribe to principles of formal change management
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain focused and confident
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively as part of a team and across teams
  • Experience troubleshooting problems and working with a team to resolve large scale production issues

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 3-5+ years in a technical role managing server and storage resources
  • 1+ years in DevOps/Operations role in a SaaS environment
