Network Specialist

PURPOSE:
Install, analyze, configure, maintain and monitor local and wide area networks, communications software, equipment, and networking components and facilities while maintaining policies and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Designs and tests LAN/WAN data communications networking systems to meet the needs of the client;

Prepares specifications and plans for implementation of new or enhanced networks;

Designs, configures, and implements LAN/WAN hardware, and software services for network operating efficiency; performs or provides technical guidance in the installation and configuration of network equipment and in resolving user or systems problems;

Assists in and may perform router installation, configurations, and software upgrade;

Connects remote sites to Ethernet and Frame Relay;

Assists in developing methods and criteria for network data collections and analysis;

Maintains network and user security;

Maintains and monitors WAN networks;

May provide one-to-one formal network training to staff and end-users;

Requires some originality and ingenuity.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS: ( Education, Experience and Skills)

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems (IS) or Information Technology (IT) or equivalent

2 to 4 years of professional experience

Post secondary training or certification

Advanced knowledge of applicable practices and procedures

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Lifting requirements are typically less than 100 pounds on an infrequent basis.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Typically works in an office environment or occasionally on or around the manufacturing or sales floor. The noise level is usually moderate. Occasional weekend work required. Occasional travel required.
