Network Designer – TS/SCI with Poly

Jacobs Federal Network Systems (FNS) provides highly sophisticated network systems design, engineering, operations, and maintenance, and offers cutting edge cybersecurity solutions for our customers in the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and other federal agencies. We deliver an integrated approach to network engineering design and network management, as well as full IT lifecycle service management, IT service delivery, asset management, logistics and procurement support, and software/hardware vendor management. Our network engineers, controllers, and technicians are trained in multiple disciplines to successfully maintain legacy systems as well as insert the latest technologies for voice, data, and video networks in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.

Jacobs is actively seeking a Network Engineer to join their team at their customer location in the Reston, VA area.

Installs, configures, and supports an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), customer networks, Intranet and Internet and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system

May supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures

Maintains network hardware and software as a member of Tier 4

Provides support to projects that involve networks

Performs a full range of complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies within a single network

Evaluates new network technologies and makes recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network

Plans new configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of the performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for network interfaces to insure effective integration and optimal network performance

Provides support in the translation of business requirements into network requirements, designs and orders

The overarching security requirements for the customer network add to the complexity of these positions

Additional duties:
Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components

Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations

Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software and all configurations

Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware

Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software

Prepare technical proposals for presentation to the customer’s engineering review boards for adding new technologies to the network

Review user requests for upgrades or additions to the network to assess impact on network performance and provide advice and guidance on the most practical technical approach to meeting user requirements

Perform long term O&M activities to include tier 4 troubleshooting and problem resolution

Utilize complex network analysis tools to identify and correct problems in the network

Prepare troubleshooting procedures for restoring the network to optimal performance levels

Provide fault management for the network and supports performance management functions

Respond, isolate, and resolve network troubles. Monitor alarms and alerts to identify network elements causing network degradation or failure

Maintain logs and records associated with reported problems or situations

Assess and document current site network configuration and user requirements

Design and optimize network topologies

Ensure these systems and applications are compliant with standards for open systems architectures, reference models, and profiles of standards – such as the IEEE Open Systems environment (OSE) reference model – as they apply to the implementation and specification of IM solutions on the application platform, across the application program interface (API), and the external environment/software application

Evaluate and recommend COTS Applications and methodologies that can be acuire3d to provide interoperable, portable, and scalable information technology solutions

Qualifications

Active TS/SCI Polygraph

BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and ten (10) to fourteen (14) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree in a computer or system science discipline and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of progressive experience, or a Ph.D. degree in a computer or system science discipline and four (4) to seven (7) years of progressive experience

General equivalency guidelines for education, certifications, and experience are provided below; however, these guidelines do not immediately qualify someone at a particular level. Skill levels for an individual are based upon a combination of education, training, and experience, e.g. someone may have 20 years of professional experience; however they may only be qualified as Full Performance based upon the expertise needed to perform the work within that category

Relevant certifications will be considered equivalent to three (3) months of specialized experience

Typically someone that is a recognized expert or certified practitioner with a particular computer language, system or technology that can not only deliver capabilities, but can mentor and train others

Minimum of 5 years’ experience specific to Network Engineering

Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure associated with the cloud environments

Working knowledge of Communication and Information Security policies and practices

Experience in managing VMware

Experience with Cisco Appliances (ASA, and Switch Technology)

Experience with working as a Linux Administrator and Micro-Soft Systems Administrator

Recommended Certifications

Cisco CCNP

Cisco CCNA

Cisco Security Plus

Essential Functions

Work Environment

General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Physical Requirements

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Equipment and Machines

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance

Attendance is critical at all times. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
