Metrologist / Metrology Engineer

Description/Job Summary

Brooks Instrument is an industry leader in flow measurement and flow control products for critical applications, and a division of ITW (A Fortune 200 Company) is seeking candidates for a Metrologist . This highly visible position will be based out of our headquarters facility in Hatfield, PA (Suburban Philadelphia). In addition to our Pennsylvania operations, Brooks maintains manufacturing locations in, Hungary, and Korea. The Company also maintains sales offices throughout the world. Our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: life sciences, chemicals, semiconductor, analytical instruments, nuclear, and solar cells.

Basic Function

Develop, document, and maintain calibration systems, procedures, and methods for physical, mechanical, electrical, dimensional and/or optical inspection, measurement, and test equipment based on analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.

Lead ISO17025 accreditation initiative

Lead round robin testing protocols to assure alignment between systems and production locations

Analyze and solve calibration problems using advanced mathematical and engineering knowledge.

Use statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes.

Be a subject matter expert and the go to person with respect to solving moderate to complex measurement process and equipment capability challenges

Engage peers in Manufacturing and R&D to understand current and future capability requirements and translate needs to a process and technology roadmap.

Work with metrology equipment vendors to identify and develop capabilities and solutions to align with requirements.

Evaluate and audit third party calibration and testing providers

Evaluate and recommend new calibration methods, software and procedures

Leads plant activities to ensure that devices, instruments, and monitoring systems are maintained in compliance with the plant SOP s, systems, and procedures.

Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, systems, procedures and practices. Includes ISO 9001 Quality System and other process measurement industry standards as applicable.

Manage the continuous improvement of the calibration and metrology system.

Oversees controlled documentation creation, approval, modification and release for calibrations and PM s.

Provide guidance to assist in the timely resolution of investigations, deviations, nonconformities and other testing or compliance issues that may arise.

Review and approval of validations of instruments and measuring devices.

Review and approval of product Certificates of Calibration and other labels and labeling for measuring devices.

Provide strategic input on compliance issues to Management.

Provide technical assistance to Research and Development in developing, testing and documenting new and improved measurement processes.

Manage and perform day-to-day functions of the Metrology department and provide training and supervision as needed.

Education and Experience Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelors/Master’s degree in a related field (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, etc.) from an accredited four-year college or university and 5 years of directly related experience in a process instrumentation and measurement facility; or a combination of educational and applicable work experience.

Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Knowledgeable in ISO17025 and related accreditation and laboratory management standards.

Experience leading a Laboratory to attain ISO17025 accreditation is preferred.

Skilled in the use of software programs such as Microsoft Office and database management programs.

Detail oriented and skilled at examining documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to prepare records in accordance with instructions.

Hands-on capable of performing calibrations and commissioning of new instruments.

Knowledgeable in QC and QA principles and concepts in a manufacturing and development facility.

Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines on a personal level. Ability to work under tight deadlines.

Team oriented individual with the ability to work effectively with multiple skill level employees.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Familiarity with basic statistical tools and software (Minitab, etc.)

Familiarity Met Track Calibration management software.

Previous experience supervising the daily operation of an accredited calibration laboratory preferred.
