In the Medical Records Specialist I role, you’ll provide telephonic and clerical support, as well as written correspondence for the Claims/BlueCard division. This position works closely with other Blue Plans and provider offices to obtain pertinent medical records in order to facilitate the accurate and timely processing of claims. The Medical Record Specialist will perform work involving the critical analysis and processing of material. This position will be responsible for ensuring the completion and of multiple complex inquiries.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

Medical Records Specialist I

  • The Medical Records Specialist I would have a High School Diploma or GED and 1 years’ experience in Customer Service, either in a call center or other industry such as insurance, retail, banking, restaurant, hospital, medical office or other experience with extensive customer service contact
  • General office experience or training, technical, vocational, careers in basic office procedures
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and coding preferred.
  • Knowledge of claims processing, BlueCard experience preferred
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts and calculations
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills and strong customer-service skills, including courteous telephone etiquette
  • Keyboarding skills of 30 wpm, 10-key ability, proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Work in a team environment and work effectively with all levels of staff
  • Adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Learn and retain new or evolving information and procedures
  • Ability to work under stress and pressure and respond to inquiries with tact, diplomacy and patience
  • Exercise discretion on sensitive and confidential matters
  • Interpret policies and procedures and communicate effectively with employees, medical professionals and other Blue Plans, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation and proof-reading
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and appropriately prioritize workload

Medical Records Specialist II

  • One year experience as a Medical Records Specialist I, performing at a core level or above, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in working cross-departmentally; including provider relations, member services, and claims
