Mechanical Engineer

OVERVIEW: The R&D Mechanical Engineer assists/supports in identifying, creating, executing, and reporting project results to qualify materials and product. The incumbent will assist in developing and applying advanced engineering concepts, theories, and research techniques in the solution of complex mechanical design, hydraulics, and electro-mechanical control technical problems. As a contributor on various projects, the incumbent works with the Manufacturing and applicable departments for process improvements.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be accountable for the following functions and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate/perform all aspects of mechanical design, from system concepts to detailed designs and prototype testing, to documentation and manufacturing transfer as assigned.
  • Perform engineering calculation and design analysis as required to ensure mechanical integrity of products and manufacturing equipment within the company with the assistance of the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Assist in product development activities ranging from conceptual development, prototyping, and design validation to manufacturing and existing product support; individually and collaboratively.
  • Contribute/assist in the research and development of new concepts and products to address new markets and new technologies.
  • Generate component specification documentation using the industry’s best practices.
  • Author technical documents and assembly instructions. Must be able to read, design, and interpret blueprints.
  • Perform root cause analysis of issues detected in development and existing products.
  • Assist/work with various support groups (i.e., drafting, research and development, testing, etc.) to complete projects as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following standards and procedures and comply with legal regulations.
  • Maintain ASTM standards.
  • Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The incumbent must at a minimum possess the following:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • One or more years of experience are required in the following areas: 1. Creating semi-empirical models, which allow the mechanical analysis of thick section composites. 2. Designing, conducting, and reporting independent research.o AutoCAD, ANSYS, SolidWorks, etc. 3. Designing downhole tools such as drills, motors, sleeves, packers, etc.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Ability to perform intermediate-to-advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to liaise professionally with team members and system users.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel in North America on an as needed basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent must be able to:

  • Operate basic office equipment, such as a keyboard, mouse, and copier/printer/scanning machine.
  • Sit for long periods of time, up to 8-10 hours a day.
  • Walk/travel to production areas while wearing appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), which at a minimum includes safety glasses but could also include steel-toe footwear and other PPE.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs regularly and with assistance, up to 75lbs on occasion.
