Developmental role for talent interested in pursuing growth path to material planner. Role focuses on understanding the concepts of material planning and what role it holds within the supply chain. Will provide other support to production and management as required. Responsibilities to include following the purchased material planning process such as creating and maintaining purchase orders as well as collaborating with suppliers to ensure material arrives on time in support of production and aftermarket needs. Through coaching, will develop an understanding of material planning principles and concepts such as: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, various supply types such as MRP, Just-in-Time (JIT) and Supplier Owned and Managed Inventory (SOMI); as well as creating and maintaining purchase orders, etc., while assuming planning responsibility for a targeted amount of suppliers and spend. Objective to prepare this talent to transition to a material planner role with full scope and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
Develop a strong understanding of our primary systems: MAPICS/AS400 (Enterprise Resource Planning system) and Synchrono (Material Requirements Planning system).

Purchase and plan purchased parts for a targeted amount of suppliers and spend to gain exposure to the functions of material planning. Make decisions to release, cancel, expedite or defer releases on purchase orders based on current inventory, demand and capacity requirements.

Create and maintain purchase orders in MAPICS for raw materials.

Work closely with and support the focus factory in terms of proving the data and analytics necessary to problem solve issues related to material planning such as inventory stocking levels and material availability.

Plans service parts requirements for common purchased material to meet the external customer’s demand.

Understand the Global Inventory Plan and respective planning parameters (ABC/xyz 9-blocker), which accounts for value and velocity of material.

Collaborate with suppliers to ensure On-Time Delivery (OTD) of material is sufficient to meet the needs of the business and ultimately our customers.

Ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained according to the defined planning parameters and goals set by the business.

Represents production planning and analysis at various meetings and relays related information to production planning and analysis staff. Collects information, complies into standard formats, prepares monthly reports and other management reports as requires

Provides other support to production and management as required

Qualifications:
Knowledge of the supply chain, manufacturing and quality control

Experience and demonstrated comfort level with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and other mainframe, information technology (IT)

Ability to understand manufacturing engineering processes and interpret blueprints

Must have good mathematical skills as well as effective written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work with cross-functional teams across the organization

Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology or Materials Science desired.

High School Diploma and 2+ years of supply chain experience required.
