Material Handler – Transportation

The Material Handler – Transportation loads and unloads trucks and trailers; moves merchandise into/out of stores, auction, dock or the plant; provides donors with receipts, and assists with sorting of merchandise. The Material Handler may also drive the forklift. Must provide support services by working with individuals with disabilities or disadvantages.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Assists the Truck Driver in backing up and parkingtrucks and trailers. Loads and unloads trucks and trailers and placesmerchandise in the proper location for that merchandise at the stores, dock,auction or plant. Provides good customer service to donors, the generalpublic and the stores. Delivers merchandise safely while preserving itsvalue. Cleans and maintains the dock and dock area, trucks,trailers and ADC areas. Accepts direction from the Truck Driver. Utilizes safe, appropriate operation of lift-gates,floor jack, and other material handling equipment. Assists in the security of Goodwill merchandise,equipment and property. Recognizes that all merchandise, equipment and propertydonated to or purchased by Goodwill is the property of Goodwill and is not tobe taken, stolen, sold, given away or thrown away inappropriately. Performs housekeeping duties such as cleaning,straightening, sweeping, mopping, washing and dusting. Presents a good image of Goodwill Industries ofSouthern Arizona, Inc. when meeting the public, and provides courteous serviceat all times. Attends meetings and training seminars as required. Maintains acceptable attendance, personal hygiene, anddress code standards including wearing company issued name badges. Cleans up all work areas at the end of each shift. Responsible to greet every Donor with “Good Morning(afternoon)” and thanks the individual for their donation. Follows all company and department policies andprocedures. Demonstrates good work habits for employees andprogram participants, maintaining a good attitude towards the operation of theentire facility, and is a positive role model for individuals receivingrehabilitation services. Ensures all safety rules are adhered to and thegeneral upkeep of your area meets the standards of Goodwill Industries ofSouthern Arizona, Inc. Reports accidentsor injuries immediately. Maintains a high level of confidentiality regardingGoodwill Industries of Southern Arizona, Inc. and persons receiving services. Assists in other areas as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS :
Must have an acceptable driving record, valid Arizona driver’s license and must be able to drive to other Goodwill locations. Must have a pleasant and friendly attitude.

Must be able to read a map and have basic knowledge of Tucson streets. Ability to read, write and speak English.

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and be able to stand for long periods at a time; bend, reach and stretch repeatedly during a shift. Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.

Must be able to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends).

Exposed to all weather conditions, moving trucks and forklifts, and moderate noise levels. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Ability to develop and maintain effective workingrelationships with supervisors, co-workers, customers, donors, and personsreceiving services. Ability to maintain a positive, friendly attitude anda neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. Ability to provide support services by working withdisabled/disadvantaged persons and assisting in the rehabilitation process ofGoodwill Industries of Southern Arizona, Inc.
