Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director for Academic Support Programs ( ASP ), the Manager for Student Support Services is responsible for the overall leadership and oversight for the Student Support Services TRiO ( SSS ) program at the University of Idaho. The SSS Manager will ensure that the program supports the academic goals and mission of the University and is in compliance with federal TRiO legislation and regulations. The SSS Manager is responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating professional staff; budget planning and management; grant preparation/administration; annual report preparation and submission; coordinating/overseeing program activities; collaborating with other campus departments to provide quality programming and services; guiding the development and execution of program vision and goals; and coordinating program assessment, evaluation, and reporting activities. The SSS Manager is the spokesperson for the SSS program, participates on several University committees, and is a member of the ASP leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field and 3+ years of related work experience; or PhD in related field
  • Knowledge of management practices and experience supervising staff
  • Experience developing procedures and monitoring a budget
  • Experience planning and coordinating programs, managing grants/contracts or in supervising an organizational unit
  • Experience serving as a liaison or student advocate with customer/provider groups
  • Experience interpreting federal or state regulations
  • Two or more years of professional work experience with program management and grant administration at the secondary or post-secondary level, including past experience planning and implementing programs, promoting and gaining project support
  • Experience interpreting and explaining specialized or complex material into information usable by the public

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, college student personnel, adult education or closely related field
  • Two or more years of budget planning and management experience
  • One to two years professional experience in counseling/advising at the secondary or post-secondary level
  • Experience working with U.S. Department of Education TRIO Programs
  • Successful grant writing and grant administration experience
  • Experience with program assessment and report writing
  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience at secondary or post-secondary level
  • Strong working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
  • Experience working with underprepared, disadvantaged, disabled, non-traditional, first generation, and/or students from a limited income family.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning theory, developmental education issues, freshman year experience, supplemental instruction, and academic success strategies.
  • Working knowledge of disability laws and accommodation needs of people with disabilities at the post-secondary level
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel, work weekends, after regular business hours and holidays.
