Position Summary

Virgin Galactic (VG) www.VirginGalactic.com is seeking an experienced learning and development partner to plan, conduct, and administer programs, training and tools to maintain or enhance employee’s technical/soft skills, knowledge, performance and abilities. This is a full-time position at Virgin Galactic’s aerospace facility in Long Beach, California.

Your Mission:
This hands on role will create, administer, and deliver training programs for the business and organizations. To do this, you must first assess the needs of the organization. Once those needs are determined, you will develop custom training programs that take place at Virgin or other offsite facilities.

You will be responsible for the design, maintenance, and delivery of weekly employee orientations, onboarding and indoctrination into the VO culture. You will organize or offer training sessions using lectures, group discussions, team exercises, hands-on examples, and other training formats. Some training is in the form of a video, Web-based program, or self-guided instructional manual. Training also may be collaborative, which allows employees to connect informally with experts, mentors, and colleagues, often through the use of technology. You also may monitor instructors, guide employees through media-based programs, or facilitate informal or collaborative learning programs.

Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, or consultations with managers or instructors

Design and create training manuals, online learning modules, and course materials

Review training materials from a variety of vendors and choose appropriate materials

Deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques

Monitor and evaluate training programs to ensure they are current and effective

Select and assign instructors or vendors to conduct training

Manage and maintain compliance training systems, training, and reporting

Source and implement an org wide Learning Management System (LMS)

Develop and manage performance management processes/tools

Perform administrative tasks such as monitoring costs, scheduling classes, setting up systems and equipment, and coordinating enrollment

May perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring:
Basic Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in training and development, human resources, education, or instructional design. Also may consider a degree in business or the social sciences, such as educational or organizational psychology.

Must have at least 8-10 or more years of recent experience leading the assessment, development and delivery of learning and development activities.

Exceptional speaking skills are essential for this role. You must be a dynamic communicator of information who will facilitate learning to diverse audiences from executive level to individual contributors.

Previous work experience in a start-up environment and/or the aerospace industry is highly desirable.

It is critical that the candidate have significant experience in information technology, e-learning and technology-based tools and their roll out. Successful candidates should be able to effectively use all the MS Office tools and implement other effective tools in the analysis, design and delivery of trainings.

Preferred Skills and Experience

A masters or other related advanced degree is highly desirable, as are related learning and development certifications.

Previous relevant HR leadership/management experience is desired.

Physical and/or Additional Requirements Must be able to work all shifts as well as weekends when needed.

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
