EVENTS COORDINATOR I

DESCRIPTION

The City of Long Beach is recruiting for a full-time, unclassified Events Coordinator I in the Special Events and Filming Office under the direction of the Manager of Special Events and Filming. Under the direction of the City Manager’s Office, the Special Events and Filming division is responsible for permitting all special events and film productions within the city of Long Beach. The events occur year-round and cultivate civic pride, social awareness and cultural enrichment for residents and visitors, while contributing to economic development and tourism in Long Beach. Special Events and Filming staff work internally with City departments and externally with customers and public agencies.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists in the coordination, scheduling, managing, and monitoring of special event activity citywide.

Promotes and maximizes the use of public property and facilities for special events.

Negotiates terms and conditions of event permits.

Establishes and maintains close professional liaison relationship with public and private institutions, event promoters and individual citizens.

Coordinates public safety, public works and other support services required for special events.

Coordinates with event promoters and the community to mitigate the impact of special events in the City.

Ensures compliance with state, county and local laws, ordinances, and policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or closely related field; and one year of experience coordinating, planning, and/or organizing events.

A valid California motor vehicle operator’s license.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE:
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to deal effectively with the public in difficult situations.

Skilled in booking talent, including musicians, bands, and disc jockeys.

Ability to manage multiple projects independently.

Ability to effectively interface with elected officials, City staff and the public, and provide excellent customer service.

Ability to work independently and exercise strong judgment in carrying out responsibilities.

Ability to work an irregular schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Ability to handle confidential issues in a professional manner.

Experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
