Taos is immediately hiring a full-time permanent Linux System Engineer to join our Managed Services team in Culver City, CA!

Who you are:

The Linux Systems Engineer will be a core member of a team accountable for the availability, stability and security of global SPE Enterprise Linux/Unix Infrastructure. The incumbent will provide recommendations on Linux operating systems (OS) related to both internal and external clients, including requirements regarding servers, storage, network services, database support and automation of redundant tasks. The scope will also encompass planning and management of the Systems Infrastructure with supervision from senior team members, and the client’s management.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Troubleshoot OS related issues and restore service in a timely manner.
  • Maintain server availability and security, including infrastructure tools.
  • Maintain the system inventory including physical and virtual managed OS.
  • Manage outages, identify root cause and resolve all server issues within allowed service levels.
  • Create and update operational procedures and policies.
  • Identify, resolve and escalate business issues as appropriate.
  • Participate in patch management and Linux after hours on-call rotation.
  • Develop and maintain the automation of rapid server deployment and centralized management of servers.
  • Develop performance management procedures for Unix/Linux servers.
  • Participate in ongoing development of infrastructure automation tooling.
  • Provide systems reports to management as requested.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot OS related issues.
  • Install various software packages on platform.
  • Collaborate with other teams to design and implement solutions.
  • Participate in the development of operational procedures and policies.
  • Develop and maintain project plan for small and midsize team projects and provide status reports.

Bring your knowledge of:

  • x86 Unix/Linux server systems administrations/engineering (standalone and blade systems).
  • VMWare or other similar virtualization platform (Proxmox, RHEV, oVIRT, Xen).
  • Unix/Linux File Systems and volume management experience (LVM, ext4, XFS, NFS).
  • Securing publicly accessible web and application systems.
  • Hosting (but not administering) database environments (various SQLs).
  • Expert with open source software suites (Apache, PHP, Tomcat, GNU Tools, etc).
  • Experience in a medium-large heterogeneous server infrastructure environment.
