Job Summary

The Linux Administrator is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, securing, administration, organization, documentation, maintenance and support of ComPsych’s new and existing highly available application and web infrastructures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, install, maintain and troubleshoot highly available Linux systems including development, staging, production and DR environments
  • Conduct Linux systems administration, including performance monitoring/tuning, capacity planning, data replication/synchronization, DR environment availability, Nessus and OpenSCAP security audits with focus on security and maximum availability
  • Install, configure and manage security for Operating Systems including deployment of firewalls, IDS/IPS
  • Manage and apply hardening standards for adopted baselines to ensure maximum protection for all environments
  • Deploy, configure, manage and support web-hosting environments, i.e. Apache, MS IIS and load balancers for production, staging, development and test environments while supporting development teams
  • Deploy JBoss and Tomcat environments
  • Administer and monitor SAN storage systems
  • Conduct research and development to drive innovation and propose new technology to improve production systems and their reliability, security and availability
  • Create and maintain systems and procedures documentation
  • Maintain, update and configure performance monitoring system
  • Maintain, update and configure availability monitoring systems
  • Utilize project planning practices to focus and manage time, tasks and deliverables.Use Microsoft Project Plan to build and maintain projects and subsequently meet deadlines and produce quality deliverables on-time and within established budgets
  • Scripting experience in Bash/Shell

Job Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience required
  • Degree preferred
  • Expert in Linux Administration i.e. RedHat
  • Experience working with RedHat Identity Management
  • Experience working in mid to large 24/7 environments with high availability and scalability requirements
  • Experience working with SSL and TLS configurations
  • Experience working with servers deployed on hypervisors
  • VMware familiarity and experience preferred
  • Strong skills in designing, deploying,maintainingand monitoring highly available and scalable environments with strong security and performance requirements for Linux; familiarity with Nagios a plus
  • Familiarity with Ansible configuration management or similar systems desired
  • Strong troubleshooting skills of Linux platforms
  • Strong working knowledge and troubleshooting skills for Apache, MS IIS and load balancing technologies
  • Solid knowledge of network protocols and troubleshooting skillsof TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and SMTP
  • Experience using WireShark or other network sniffing technology
  • Strong knowledge of storage subsystems, RAID configurations, and their interaction with OS level
  • Knowledge of Java Application platforms such as JBoss and Tomcat
  • Working knowledge and administration of SAN Systems – Fujitsu, Nimble and Pure Storage a strong plus
  • Experience with Oracle 11g/12c in Linux environments a strong plus
  • Conduct research and development while exercising creative thinking and ideation to advance business systems performance and availability
  • Strong, proven experience in scripting using Bash/Shell and Python/Perl a plus.
  • Strong work ethic and the willingness and ability to work hours necessary to meet project deadlines required
  • Production experience with MS Windows Server 2008 and above desired
  • Provide support to other team members, development teams, coach junior staff
  • Provide 24/7 on-call production support
  • Good writing and communication skills a must
  • Ability to travel 5%
  • Must be able to work on-site in the Chicago Office
