Lecturer in Human Anatomy and Physiology

The duties of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Lecturer will include teaching one section of Human Anatomy and one section of Human Physiology each semester to freshman nursing, biological sciences, pharmacy, kinesiology, and pre-health science majors. As we transition to teaching a two-semester combined course sequence in Anatomy/Physiology, the Lecturer will teach both Human Anatomy/Physiology I and Human Anatomy/Physiology II each semester. Additional teaching duties may include courses in animal physiology, comparative vertebrate anatomy and introductory biology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
In addition to the above teaching duties, the Lecturer will assist in course management and in developing pedagogies to enhance learning and retention. This may include assisting with course development for combined anatomy and physiology as well as other courses listed above, laboratory design and supervision of teaching assistants.

The Lecturer will also participate in university committees with the goal of improving instruction and retention at the university. Based on this experience, the Lecturer will collaborate with the faculty and staff of the Biological Sciences department and College of the Environment and Life Sciences to improve curriculum, especially in the area of human anatomy and physiology. This will include serving on committees with this objective.

QUALIFICATIONS :
REQUIRED :
1. Master’s degree in biological sciences or a life sciences field at the time of application.

2. At least one semester of teaching experience at the college level as the primary instructor for courses in both Human Anatomy and Physiology, and/or a two semester sequence in combined Human/Anatomy.

3. Demonstrated skills in interactive teaching.

4. Demonstrated skills in use of on-line teaching tools to enhance student learning.

5. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of students and faculty.

6. Demonstrated ability to function independently and collaboratively in a complex academic environment.

7. Demonstrated computer, Power Point and spreadsheet skills.

8. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

9. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

PREFERRED :
1. PhD in biological sciences or a life sciences field at the time of application.

2. Undergraduate degree in a STEM discipline.

3. Teaching experience in animal physiology, comparative vertebrate biology and introductory biology at the college level.

4. Experience in using on-line teaching tools at the college level.

5. Experience with curriculum development and learning outcomes assessment.
