Junior Network Architect

Provides second tier support level networking, server, storage, application, and user support with guidance from the Information Systems Engineer or Network Architect. Directly assists the Information Systems Engineer in development, production, and operational activities within the Information Technology Department by performing the following duties personally or by overseeing consultants. The Junior Network Architect works primarily at the downtown location but is required to be able to work at multiple locations within the metropolitan area as needed. Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots Cisco and Dell switches, firewalls, and routers in a WAN environment
  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots Mitel, Axcess, and other telephony systems internal to the organization
  • Installs and tests software upgrades and hardware configurations.
  • Provides tier two end user support for hardware, software, and network configuration problems.
  • Primary technician for phone system, desk phone, and mobile device support.
  • Administers and assists with the management of Mobile Device Management to include security policies, procedures, and end user documentation
  • Assists the Network Architect with recommendations and the development of plans for ongoing network development and operations.
  • Participates in team meetings to propose and develop long term strategies for internal telephony system infrastructure
  • Assists with the management of physical network, server, and cabling implementations.
  • Supports IT monitoring system including routers, switches, firewalls, servers, storage, applications utilizing SNMP and system logs.
  • Manages Active Directory organizational structure, Active Directory objects, Group Policy objects and associated management tools.
  • Responsible for network/e-mail account provisioning and deprovisioning in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Assists with the management of physical network, server, and cabling implementations.
  • Supports IT monitoring system including routers, switches, firewalls, servers, storage, applications utilizing SNMP and system logs.
  • Assists with documentation of procedures and standards related to network hardware, mobile device acquisition, use, support, and security.
  • Develops internal reporting capacities to support monitoring and evaluation of network infrastructure and telecom services to include maintenance contracts, life-cycle, licensing, and warranties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides supervisory duties as required. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Heartland Alliance’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include cross-training employees; planning, assigning, and coordinating work with others.

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of two years of experience; or high school diploma and a minimum four years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience in a multi-site environment.

  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Exchange 2007/2010, MS Office 2010/2013, and Operating Systems including Windows Server 2003/2008/2012. In addition the ideal candidate will have familiarity with the following systems or comparable systems; Veeam Backup and Replication 6.1; Symantec Backup Exec 2010; SolarWinds Orion 5.0; Kaspersky Anti-Virus; ManageEngine Suite; Desktop Management Software; software involved in the management of LAN and WAN; and other software applications routinely used by Heartland Alliance.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: The Junior Network & Telecom Architect is expected to engage in regular professional development. An IT certification such as the following is preferred: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) andor Mitel Technical Certifications.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, internal customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and area.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work independently when required without direct supervision.
