Junior Investment Research Analyst

LOCATION:

Omaha, NE

PURPOSE:

The Junior Investment Research Analyst is responsible for assisting in
providing money management to multiple product lines, including making
investment recommendations, assisting with the development of analytic
models, assessments and/or applications in support of portfolio and risk
management efforts. Creating and delivering internal/external performance
research reports, conducting analysis of performance attribution and
producing communication material, including market commentary and client
reviews for CLS Investments, LLC (“CLS”), a wholly owned subsidiary of
NorthStar Financial Services Group, LLC (“NorthStar”).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT ADMINISTRATION

• Provides support to portfolio management functions including portfolio
modeling and relative value, monitoring investment strategies to coordinate
with CLS’ major investment themes, assisting lead portfolio manager with
proposals, advisor and investor phone calls, allocation decisions, and
creating marketing pieces, as well as providing money management functions
as necessary, including but not limited to supporting the investment
management team

• Helps create and maintain client performance presentations not less than
quarterly, client/prospect presentations for PM, conference slide decks
including but not limited to economic presentations, capital market reviews
and Board presentations/slides

INVESTMENT RESEARCH

• Utilizes analytics to assess future risk, opportunities, and
effectiveness. Translates results into meaningful solutions to enhance
decision making

• Utilizes industry best practices to quantify risk and aggregate
exposures. Assists with development of systems and programs that measure
aggregate risk exposures

• Create statistical reporting and financial analysis to forecast results
for required stress test scenarios. Analyzes and challenges stress testing
results

• Creates reports and charts with market/economic data via various sources,
and produces accompanying commentary to portfolio management team

• Assists Portfolio Management team with investment research and ad hoc
requests

• Identifies and researches securities that meet CLS’s investment criteria;
evaluates performance and summarizes key takeaways related to CLS’s
investment criteria

• Conducts in-depth data analyses of assigned market sector offerings and
makes investment recommendations to Portfolio Manager; produces detailed
fundamental analysis and opinions supported by quantitative analytics

• Inputs, validates, analyzes and reports on data relevant to all separate
account and total return portfolios

• Researches and prepares reports on economic data for integration into
quarterly economic outlook

• Assists with trades in all portfolios under management

• Identifies and produces analysis on global research topics that support
thought leadership at the firm

COMMUNICATION

• Present summarization of risk analysis to various levels of management

• Writes-up company overviews and proposals; builds written investment
cases with supporting documents and spreadsheets for those companies using
CLS’s investment criteria; posts commentary on CLS blog and various
internal sites for viewing by clients and internals

• Acts as liaison between marketing and portfolio management

• Creates client reviews providing a detailed analysis of a client’s
performance and commentary pertaining to client’s specific strategy

May perform other duties as required and assigned.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS

• Regular contact with internal departments regarding communications for
daily commentary and correspondence

• Works with other analysts to learn CLS’s method for generating portfolio
data and analytics

• Regular contact with Portfolio Management team regarding portfolio
management/investment committee meetings, conducting performance analyses,
and return attribution across asset classes and portfolios,
information/clarification on money management or research duties

• Regular contact with representatives from other firms in the ETF industry

• Occasional contact with clients at company-sponsored client events or
during client phone calls

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of mutual funds and ETF’s, both active and passive.

• Knowledge of risk measurement and management techniques within securities
markets

• Knowledge of the equity and fixed income markets and how economic
indicators affect each

• Knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures relating to investment
management

• Ability to interpret statistical information and communicate investment
and industry analysis

• Ability to multi-task while maintaining careful attention to detail

• Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team
environment

• Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and address
competing priorities

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and other Office software
including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

• Financial skill set including modeling and valuation

• Effective written, listening and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical, research, initiative and problem solving skills

EDUCATION: *

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or related field
required

EXPERIENCE: *

• Experience working within the financial services industry preferred

*Equivalent education and experience will be considered
