  • The Yamhill County Circuit Court is hiring a Judicial Support Floater Clerk (Judicial Services Specialist 3).

    As a judicial support floater clerk….

    Much of your day is spent providing moderate to complex clerical support to a judge, processing more complex documents or records, (both hard copy and electronic documents), and providing support in the courtroom during criminal, civil, juvenile, or family law matters before the court. You will both prepare case documents such as motions, orders, warrants, or judgments, and review documents filed with the court for accuracy and completeness. You will attend court and complete necessary forms to ensure accurate written records are maintained, including handling and marking exhibits. You will determine what actions, if any, are the next steps on certain case types. You will maintain the judges’ calendar. You will track case status assigned to the judge.

    The courtroom work is fast-paced and involves frequent distraction or interruption, while you enter information into a computer in real-time using a variety of software and equipment. You will have frequent interaction with judges, attorneys, parties to cases, and with many people who are facing very challenging life circumstances or stressful situations.

    You will use established policies and procedures to perform your work, while also ensuring statutory requirements are met. Most importantly, you will be part of our justice system that ensures peoples’ cases are heard impartially and in a timely manner.

    Who we need:

    We need someone who enjoys customer service and clerical duties in a business or professional setting. We welcome applicants who both understand that many of our court customers are facing life-changing circumstances or highly stressful situations and can work with the appropriate level of tact and diplomacy. We also need someone who has experience using Microsoft Word and Excel to create documents, charts, or correspondence, and has used a database to enter and retrieve data. We value reliability and accuracy because we are a team providing access to justice and services to our community.

    Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position and the work schedule currently is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.

  • Occasional after-hours work may be required.

  • Frequent long periods of sitting or standing at a computer.

  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may at times be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.

  • Frequent lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and standing may be required.

  • Lifting up to 40 pounds of office material or equipment may be required.

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required or be able to provide an acceptable alternative means of transportation.

  • The following equipment may be used: telephone, personal computer with screen monitor, copy machine, fax machine, and digital recording equipment.

  • Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills

    Minimum Qualifications

    The qualified candidate must have at least two years of responsible, clerical experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.

    AND

    Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent life or work experience.

    OR

    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three years of experience in a moderately complex business environment.

  • Experience working for the Oregon Judicial Department, or other court or legal environment.
