Job Description

State Street DataGX(SM) “Data-as-a-Service” platform is currently ongoing multiyear strategic growth initiative. This platform reflects State Street’s years of experience servicing complex instruments for our global client base and our investments in building advanced data management technologies. As part of this growth strategy our Technology team is seeking talented engineers to join an already established team who will engineer the next generation of data applications. Candidates will work closely with business users, developers and testers to build applications to support State Street’s “Data-as-a-Service” platform.

The Application Developer role is a hands-on software development position, responsible for implementing the architectural vision for this new strategic initiative. The developer will work with small teams that identify and build core re-useable functionality, tools, and services. These components will enable new product development and integrations and bridge from current systems to the future state. The Foundational Development team will leverage existing Corporate and IT assets and will use agile software development methodologies, Open Source, and a combination of vendor and custom software to deliver capabilities to end users and development teams in a rapid and incremental fashion.

This developer will be a part of the selection, architecture, design, and implementation of the core re-usable functionality used to implement the DataGX platform. The individual will be responsible for building one or more core components, and will work with the corporate architecture teams within State Street to align these components with corporate architectural standard and control.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 1+ years of Java or Python programming experience. Experience with modern dynamic and scripting languages a major plus.
  • Experience working within a financial institution is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to receive and analyze requirements and propose a suitable solution that adheres to the team’s methodology
  • Communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to communicate at the right level with all parties involved—developers, architects, and end users—who may be based in different locations and time-zones.
  • The ability to operate in a self-sufficient manner, but also identify the right time to raise queries or concerns.
  • High proficiency in any of the following is highly desirable: Java, Python, Scala, C++, JavaScript, SQL or other programming languages

Junior Software Engineer – Lexington, MA

The Junior Software Engineer will be part of a team of local and off-shore software engineers reporting to the Technical Lead. Will require to interact with the user community within the company to create and document the software requirements and issues, functional and design specs and present to both user community and peers. Participate in software development, maintenance and support activities and release process to QA and interact with off-shore QA team during the QA cycle. Help with ongoing production support and should be willing to perform on-call support duties from time to time. Ensure timely completion of tasks with highest degree of quality.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

• Develops, maintains and supports technology products and solutions both for the existing systems and new systems being considered as part of the innovation effort.

•Regularly communicates updates and progress to technical Lead, managers and other stake holders.

•Practices good software configuration management policies and procedure and contributes to continually improving software development and delivery processes

•Develops and coordinates the deployment plan for software releases to QA and production

•Anticipates problems and risks and develops timely mitigation strategy.

•Works with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure system uptime, scalability and reliability

•Coordinates and performs support activities towards prioritization, isolation and resolution of software issues. Performs root cause analysis and communicates options for resolution and provides recommendations to minimize business impact and maintain business continuity.

•Must be willing to perform on-call support duties 30% of the time and act as a backup support person for the primary support engineer.

Requirements

•BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related discipline

•Hands-on developer with strong technical background and 2+ years of experience in Software Development, maintenance and support with strong development and scripting language skills involving several of the following technology areas: Java, Java EE, open source frameworks like JSP, Struts, Spring, Hibernate, JBoss, Oracle, SQL/PLSQL, SOAP based / RESTful Web Services, JavaScript, jQuery, Springboot, Thymeleaf, Backbone, D3, HTML5, CSS, Swing, Apache Velocity.

•Experience working with scripting languages such as python, perl, awk, unix shell etc.

•Experience with CASE tools such as JIRA, Perforce, Eclipse, etc.

•Good Web UI development experience involving majority of the following HTML/HTML5, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, Springboot, Thymeleaf , Backbone, D3, etc.

•Experience supporting and maintaining distributed and scalable server side systems on UNIX platform.

•Experience in database development involving Oracle, jdbc, and plsql. SQL Query tuning and optimization experience is a plus.

•Experienced with agile software development methodologies, desirably Scrum

•Experience in Telecom domain is a plus.

•Experience in the full life-cycle of developing, deploying and maintaining software applications

•Excellent communication skills both written and verbal including presentations.
