IT Technician – Vehicle Technology

Nature of Position

Perform a variety of technical duties related to the implementation, installation, production support, usability, system administration and maintenance of computer, information-related systems and onboard vehicle technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as agency subject matter expert for vehicle based electronic equipment such as mobile data terminals, GPS, passenger counters and announcement systems, revenue collection (fare-boxes), camera surveillance systems and digital radios.

Administer the Onboard Vehicle Technology Systems and applications; perform installation of vehicle technology systems; assist users with computer equipment peripherals, software packages, web-based technologies and other agency systems.

Provide technical support to users of transit applications such as TripSpark PASS, TripSpark Streets, and Seon vMaxLive.

Document and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration, including Windows, Office, networks, internet/intranet, and other computer software and hardware.

Update technical documentation such as client and application specific installation configurations, troubleshoot logs, and vendor support.

Diagnose systems for hardware or software problems, determine and execute appropriate actions.

Work with consultants and vendors to coordinate software and hardware purchases and upgrades; handle vendor services calls; monitor vendor contacts when on-site; maintain related records.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic revenue collection, surveillance, communications, mobile data, and other associated transit bus electronic systems.

Provide end-to-end technical lead support for projects related to various business applications including design, configuration, installation, testing, error resolution, and proactive communication.

Participate in evaluating and recommending new technologies.

Assist in strategic planning and policy development covering network facilities and Agency Information Technology related issues.

Attend training, conferences and meetings to maintain current knowledge of technical advances in Information Technology and understanding of department functions and programs.

Maintain regular work attendance and punctuality.

Current systems software, protocols and standards, including software such as MS Office, Windows 7 and higher, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Active Directory, Crystal Reports, SQL, etc.

Understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

Data management, telecommunication systems, security and client access methods.

Learn new technologies, policies, procedures and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.

Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot software and hardware, and Wi-Fi connectivity issues.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS SQL Server, and MS Access.

Ability to read, interpret and understand electrical schematics, wiring and digital diagrams.

Operate a variety of microcomputers, servers, personal computers, and related equipment including printers, interfacing hardware, terminals and software packages.

Utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet business needs.

Communicate technical information in written and visual forms to end users, Transit Board members and management.

Work independently and effectively apply organizational and time management skills.

Exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Quickly make sense of, combine, and organize information into meaningful patterns.

Concentrate on tasks, work with frequent interruptions or distractions and remember details. Other Characteristics

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field and two years’ experience; any equivalent combination of experience and education. Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years’ experience in information technology and information systems management. MS-SQL experience preferred. Vehicle electrical wiring and power systems experience in the transit industry. TripSpark software and hardware, Seon camera and DVR systems, Kenwood digital radio systems experience desired.

Physical Requirements

Regularly talk, speak and hear; demonstrate visual ability which includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently stand, walk, sit, and kneel; regular and repetitive movements required of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; reach, bend, stoop, and crawl. Lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds. Operate a motor vehicle.

Working Conditions

Duties are assigned in both a business office environment and a maintenance garage. Work is performed onboard and around heavy duty transit vehicles; subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, dust, fumes, hazardous materials and vibration.
