IT System Administrator II

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administering and maintaining Production and DR operating systems, infrastructure applications, directory information, backup and recovery, as well network file share administration at Border States Electric. Doing so according to the company mission, culture, service philosophy and meeting the goals and objectives set forth by the Board, Senior Leadership Team and Executive Council.
  • Provides day-to-day technical expertise working as part of the IT System Adminstrators Team
  • Planning, analysis, modification, deployment, testing, patching, and maintenance of guest operating systems including Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016 as well as Linux SUSE/Redhat.
  • Planning, analysis, modification, installation, testing, and maintenance of directory information including Microsoft Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining traditional tape backup/restore technologies as well as disk based replication systems.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining advanced virtualization backup/restore technologies.
  • Administration and maintenance of infrastructure applications including identity management systems as well as advanced threat protection systems.
  • Required to complete and maintain DR documentation for the purpose of recovering our guest operating systems, network file shares, and infrastructure applications in the event of a disaster.
  • Resolve system problems through research and apply the appropriate course of action. Provide phone support as part of the IT Helpdesk. Perform off-hours support as needed for various system activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal customers, vendors, and others related to the company; promote and maintain the identity and reputation of BSE, ensuring customer satisfaction and addressing problems and complaints as they arise.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 20lbs on an occasional basis, and/or move 0-20lbs on a constant basis. This position may require frequent standing and/or walking, and/or constant sitting.
  • Adheres to BSE’s Mission, Values, Culture, Policies and Procedures. Performs all aspects of the job as accurately and efficiently as possible while providing exceptional customer service at all times. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.

Technologies Supported

  • Microsoft Active Directory; Guest OS administration in a VMware vSphere environment; IBM Tivoli Identity Manager, Tivoli Storage Manager.
  • Storage technologies including Netapp and Netapp Snapmirror.
  • Enterprise threat protection applications.
  • Enterprise Management/Monitoring Tools including Zenoss and ServiceNow.
  • Management of DHCP and DNS.
  • Other software infrastructure systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Management Information Systems preferred, or the equivalent in work experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience in implementations of virtual servers, ideally VMware and strong knowledge of Active Directory is required.
  • Experience and an understanding of storage replication strategies is a plus. Experience administering enterprise monitoring and management tools including Microsoft SCCM is a plus. Experience maintaining an enterprise wide Backup and Recovery solution is preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to support budget, schedule, and scope guidelines. Strong prioritization and problem solving skills are required.
