IT Apps Manager

The IT Applications Manager manages a team of analysts and/or developers responsible for the organization’s applications development and analysis function. Evaluates existing applications and associated integrations to determine technical changes and improvements. Sets and implements policies and procedures related to application quality standards and testing. Collaborates with IT team members and business steering teams to prioritize projects, tasks and user requests. Responsible for estimating resources and timelines for projects and tasks and accountable for meeting completion dates of each. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Reports to the Dir. IT

Participates in strategic cross-functional management discussions to enhance and align all IT systems to support strategic objectives

Aids in the establishment of best practices for application development and support and participates in strategic planning, team building, and other functions critical to the successful operation of the IT department

Responsible for implementing the IT vision and strategy for Application Team

Works with IT Director and peers to develop consolidated IT roadmap aligned with business strategy

Assists in determining the scope, budget, timelines and priorities of IT projects, and manages the complete software development lifecycle

Assists in the development and implementation of IT policies, procedures, standards, and budgets required to maintain reliable systems and control costs and recommends system architectures and software acquisitions.

Develops a common vision for the Application Team which is aligned with overarching business objectives and consistently communicates this vision in conjunction with Director of IT

Establishes and monitors departmental performance metrics and establishes a customer service mentality for the Application Team, which is based in continuous improvement, and meeting team goals for the year on productivity, quality of enhancements, and application availability

Provides mentorship for IT peers in areas of specific expertise and provides oversight, leadership, guidance, and professional growth opportunity for Application Team staff.

Assesses resource needs, relative to hardware, software, and staff, which are to meet the overall objectives of the business

Works with the Director of IT to strategically determine how best to meet these ongoing needs by developing staff skills to achieve competency relative to the support of business systems

Maintains IT staffing levels and partner consultants to provide timely correction of application.

Oversees the development, installation, configuration, maintenance and support of all enterprise applications/systems, including but not limited to; ERP, Patron Payroll / Equity, EDI, Retail POS, WonderWare, ASRS (Westfalia), Database, Reporting, and Desktop applications.

Establishes and enforces standards for all application processes, including user support / training, database performance, application architecture/programming, report formatting and distribution, data warehouse content management, etc.

Provides project management leadership for cross-functional business process changes, where new or modified infrastructure applications will be required to support the desired operational improvement

Completes process maps, procedure documentation, templates, and reports and monitors and controls project execution against the project plan and defined processes, and take corrective action when necessary.

Provides direction, coaching, guidance, support, and mentoring to project team to successfully guide team through project expectations and requirements with weekly status report that provide insights into the progress, priority and needs of these projects.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.

Communicate technical information in non-technical terms.

Act as a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.

Work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously

Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
10+ years IT experience including 5 as a software developer or analyst that has worked closely with developers to deliver solutions

5+ years experience managing enterprise application development in a multi-site manufacturing environment.

5+ years experience with cross functional business projects delivering on key company strategic initiatives

3+ years experience managing and developing multi-million dollar application solutions

5+ years defining business scope and aligning with company strategy and assessing/scoring solutions on this criteria

5+ year researching, vetting, and evaluating technology vendors and solutions

10+ years experience in technical documentation i.e. process flows, use cases, solutions requirements

Experience with ERP, MES, and SCADA systems (preferably on the Microsoft platform)

Experience with application integration tools like MQ Series, MS messaging framework or other

Experience with Enterprise Integration platforms is a plus

Experience with BI solutions, KPIs, Balanced Score Cards

Strong MS office product capabilities (Word, Excel, Visio, Powerpoint, MS Project)

Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and priorities in a rapidly changing technical environment

OTHER: Weekend and evening work and response to after-hours emergency calls may be required.
