Job Title : IT -Applications Software Specialist- Quality Assurance

Anticipated Start Date: June 1, 2017 (or sooner)

Position/Project Specifics:

As a Quality Assurance Specialist, you will be testing to ensure our program’s quality from development through production. You will be participating as QA in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, application design, software development, testing, deployment and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate for this position will have deep knowledge in automated web testing as well as an understanding of the role as a Quality Assurance on a software development team that is developing a website, desktop application and SQL database. This position will create the necessary testing materials, in addition to actual automated, integrated and unit tests in and for our web application. Responsibilities will include handling reported defects to be fixed using an understanding of the business requirements and the needs of the customer via technical support and automated tests. All while working with an integrated team of mid and senior level developers, a product owner and support specialist in a Scrum/Agile team environment.

Duties of this position will include:

  • Testing the new development and existing code of an application that collects and stores data to a SQL Server via the web
  • Writing Test behavior for Automated Integration Tests
  • Creating and Executing Automated UI Tests
  • Providing input into the web and application architecture and technologies used
  • Participating as Quality Assurance, in the development of sound software engineering practices in a Scrum/Agile environment

Essential Functions:

  • Works as a member of a .Net web development Scrum/Agile team primarily using C# and JavaScript
  • Create and implement tests, write testing scripts and detail software behavior for Integration Tests
  • Create Content for user instructions/documentation as necessary
  • Test deployed web and application software
  • Maintain and contribute to the Quality Assurance and software modification control processes as a mechanism for software modifications; The process is designed to provide the capability to solicit input from users, allow for prioritizing of major and minor bugs and software enhancement requests and the ability to track these changes from the time they are reported to the time they are implemented in production code.
  • Test windows and web-based application interfaces to databases
  • Work with multiple database interfaces and be familiar with standard web architectures
  • Define, test and analyze technical and functional requirements and specifications
  • Familiarity with User Experience standards for web based applications
  • Aid support of software products by identifying cause of reported defects and creating unit and/or integration tests to guard against them
  • Contribute as an active team member to the entire software development life cycle from business requirements, development, testing to deployment and production support
  • Create, implement and operate tests plans, scripts and test cases to verify data transactions with a focus on the end user’s expected functionality
  • Actively participate in the testing and implementation of new systems, working with programming staff regarding program changes and problems reported
  • Maintain and Update the project’s database of defects to track, report and communicate the progress of service and problem resolution as required to the team and/or users for appropriate action and priority from Product Owner
  • Work with users regarding defects, technical questions, timelines, procedures, resolution and requirements
  • Notify project team and document system, programming, and/or production problems reported impacting the user experience for priority from Product Owner
  • Provide assistance and support of software products by investigating and recreating reported defects while relaying test instruction, problem solving and technical information to customers for our software applications
  • Perform additional duties as required

      • Know how to devise, implement and perform automated tests
      • Be proficient in managing bug tracking systems and/or practices
    • Have strong Customer Support Skills
      • Clearly interpret instructions
      • Collect Bug Reports with details to recreate
      • Update Users on the status and priority of Bug Fixes
      • Answer customer centric technical questions
    • Possess Minimal Programming capability with:
      • Writing Unit Tests (NUnit or MSUnit)
      • Writing Integration Tests
      • Acceptance Tests (Gherkin/Cucumber)
      • Source Control (git)
      • Object-Oriented Design
      • .Net software development using C# and Visual Studio 2010-2015

Additional Desirable Qualifications include Experience with any of the following:

  • Working as part of a Team
  • Scrum/Agile knowledge
  • Tester/QA in an Agile Testing environment
  • Continuous integration
  • Telerik (Progress) Test Studio
  • Gherkin/Cucumber
  • Hands-on experience with web development
  • Telerik (Progress) Kendo UI
  • Developer tools and /or Learning Web Development Languages

Physical Demands :

The work is sedentary with moderate walking between workstations and carrying folders, reports, and similar light loads.

Work Environment :

The work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. There are the normal risks of an office environment. Travel is required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements :

Candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** which demonstrates:

  • Knowledge of the customary approaches, techniques, and requirements appropriate to systems and applications software design and development;
  • Knowledge of planning sequences necessary to accomplish assignments where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; and
  • Adaptation of guidelines or precedents to the needs of the assignment.

The Specialized Experience must equip the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, the Specialized Experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression position.
