Information Technology Consultant (103101)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure and support software and hardware for computers and related devices.
  • Assess the business needs behind a customer’s request and make consultations regarding solutions.
  • Troubleshoot problems via phone, email, remote control software and on-site visits.
  • Participate in team planning sessions.
  • Provide input, feedback and collaborate in documentation regarding ITS services in order to improve service.
  • Research and implement productive solutions to new technology and functional requirements.
  • Provide IT support on one of the annual 60 day training cruises.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the IT Manager.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
  • Will be required to work non-standard hours and weekends.
  • Cruise Requirements: Will be required to provide IT support for up to two months on the annual training cruise aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear. Incumbent will be subject to an annual cruise physical and drug screening prior to participation. The incumbent must also have or be able to obtain, a U.S. Passport to participate in the training cruise.
  • Shipboard Requirements: Ability to function successfully in limited living and working spaces, climb ship ladders and stairs and transit narrow hallways, and to perform assigned duties maintain balance while occasionally experiencing rolling motion aboard ship; ability to lift and move moderate weights (up to 50 lbs.) in a safe manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to apply consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in working with users to interpret needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Knowledge of information technology systems and/or applications, including campus wide systems and multimedia environments, access procedures, networks, and/or databases
  • Ability to use the following:

o Microsoft Office
o PC using Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2007/10, virus protection, web browsers, and other network utilities.
o Printers, scanners, and other miscellaneous peripherals
o Remote Access/dialup support
o Desktop security practices

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and knowledge of how and why the equipment works.
  • Ability to analyze data requirements and research data availability and access methods
  • Subject matter expertise in a specialized discipline or body of knowledge
  • Excellent customer service skills. Ability to follow through with user support.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of networking issues and applications on PC computers
  • Ability to coordinate and implement data exchanges and conversions
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position and to follow oral and written directions effectively

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years of professional experience in the information technology field. Certification training and applied experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of data administration principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of network administration
  • Ability to integrate multiple applications and/or systems

SALARY RANGE: $4,372 – $9,877 per month. The anticipated hiring range will be $4,372 – $5,000 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
