Human Resources Coordinator – Network Support Team

The Human Resources Coordinator (HR Coordinator) is responsible for carrying out all HR administrative duties with consistency, a solutions-oriented mindset, and a high degree of confidentiality . The HR Coordinator will work with the Director of Human Resources (DHR) and Chief Talent Officer (CTO) to execute tactics in the areas of benefits, payroll, employee relations, compliance, and talent management.

Additionally this role will collaborate with the talent recruitment team, campus operations teams, senior leadership members and external vendors to ensure success across the network with all HR processes and procedures.

is willing to learn and grow their knowledge of HR practices and skills like engaging in productive conflict, complex employee relations issues, and continuing to improve HR services at Hiawatha Academies

Responsibilities:
Compensation and Benefits

Manages the HR onboarding process, with activities such as drafting offer letters, preparing new hire paperwork, conducting background checks, and maintaining information databases

Processes benefit enrollments and changes for all staff (medical, dental, vision, FSA, 403b, life Insurance)

Conducts deduction and salary audits using payroll records and benefit invoices

Responds to Level 1 benefit questions

Serves as Skyward Employee Access (HRIS) administrator (resets passwords, emails account information, delegates complex issues to Director of HR)

Supports the Director of HR with open enrollment

Prepares and audits semi-monthly payroll. Prepares payroll in the absence of DHR

Employee Relations

Supports the Director of HR with investigations by scheduling meetings, taking notes, preparing reports, and co-leading interviews.

Delegates complex employee relations issues to the Director of HR

Provides Level 1 interpretation of policies and procedures to all staff

Prepares employment change paperwork (COBRA forms, termination letters, salary adjustments)

Responds to unemployment insurance requests

Responds to verifications of employment requests

Responds to requests from the MN Department of Revenue and garnishment requests

Supports the Director of HR during mediated conversations, disciplinary actions, and compliance

Compliance

Coordinates applications to the Professional Educator Licensing Board for Tier 1 license exceptions, waivers, and variances

Enters state reporting staff data into our information systems

Prepares STAR report

Identifies teachers who are out of compliance with licensing. DHR follows up with teachers and principals

Prepares government accountability reports (AAP, EEO-1, Census Bureau, ACA Reporting, etc.)

Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Hiawatha Employment Logistics

This role is a member of the Network Support Team

The expected work week for all Hiawatha Academies staff members is 40 hours. The HR Coordinator will set their individual schedule with the Director of Human Resources.

Regular presence at Hiawatha campuses (five) will be required; must have a reliable mode of transportation.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience or;

Associate’s Degree and 4 years of relevant work experience

Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Commitment to the mission and equity vision of Hiawatha Academies

Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and learn quickly

Ability to thrive under rigorous deadlines and a fast-paced environment

Ability to develop trusting relationships across lines of difference, with staff members and senior leaders

Base-level knowledge (or willingness to learn) of HR administrative topics (payroll, benefits, FMLA, etc.)

Ability to prioritize effectively

Willing to learn, grow, and adapt to change

Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree

Two or more years of experience in Human Resources

PHR or SHRM-CP

Knowledge of K-12 HR topics (licensing, compliance reporting, etc)

Spanish language proficiency: Speak, Read, Write
