Human Resources Associate

The HR Associate will be a key member of the Great Lakes Human Resources team, which works to provide HR support to all employees in the Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis offices (CHI/DET/MIN). The HR Associate will provide generalist HR support including employee onboarding, Business Services Team (BST) recruiting, policy interpretation, benefits and compensation administration, maintaining employee files, HR communications and more. The HR Associate will regularly interact with CHI/DET/MIN office employees, other US HR teams, and the Regional and Global HR teams.

Business Services Team (BST) Recruiting

  • Assist with the recruiting process for open BST positions; including but not limited to: posting open roles, screening resumes, conducting phone screens and interviews, scheduling and overseeing interview process, greeting candidates, and performing reference checks
  • Actively source candidates on platforms such as LinkedIn
  • Initiate background checks and follow up on open items for all incoming new hires for the BST and Consulting Team

Record Keeping and Communications

  • Process employee paperwork related to new hires, transfers, address changes, status changes, and employee exits with sensitivity to the confidential nature of the information
  • Assist in scheduling orientations for all incoming employees, including presenting HR policy and benefit information as needed
  • Complete and maintain all I-9 work authorization documentation including tickler files
  • Responsible for all HR Online (HRO) entries, including, but not limited to, new hire and summer intern entries, promotions, salary changes, transfers, background checks, etc; responsible for regularly auditing these entries
  • Update employee profiles on BCG Navigator by entering background information into HRO
  • Maintain all employee and alumni files by filing paperwork in a timely manner
  • Assemble and update all materials for employee packets, including: new hires, transfers, summer staff, parental leaves, and employee exits
  • Maintain all email distribution lists for the office, adding/removing employees as they arrive/depart
  • Ensure current calendar invites and other important information is sent to new hires prior to their start
  • Prepare awards and gifts for all staff promotions and awards
  • Assist with managing the general HR inbox, responding to employee questions and concerns in a timely manner
  • Assist with general employee requests, letters, verifications, etc.
  • Assist with vacation summary updates for BST and Consulting Team members

Benefits

  • Onboard all new hires and transfers and work with the US Benefits team to enroll all employees in benefits programs
  • Audit Aetna enrollments monthly to ensure all active employees are registered correctly and terminated employees are removed in a timely manner
  • Support benefit open enrollment periods
  • Assist employees with benefits related questions

General HR Support

  • Partner with all other members of the HR team to ensure team operates seamlessly; become well-versed in all processes for which backup support is to be provided, including HR Online recordkeeping, maintaining employee files, processing additional payments, employment verifications, among other responsibilities
  • Partner with HR team on team initiatives including but not limited to: Health and Wellness, BST Training initiatives, Performance and Development, Mobility Programs, Alumni initiatives, and more
  • Act as a resource to all CHI/DET/MIN employees; respond to inquiries in a timely manner; assist in managing the general HR inbox
  • Understand, interpret and communicate BCG HR policies and guidelines
  • Respond to internal/external requests for information; complete related projects through working closely with the Regional Team, Global Services, various BST departments, and external vendors
  • Assist with ad hoc projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Basic Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 2 years of HR experience, preferably in a corporate environment
  • Familiarity with federal and state employment and labor laws
  • Proficient computer skills: Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
