Primary Purpose of Position

The graphic and UX designer develops digital media assets and designs lay-outs for implementation in both digital and print mediums. The designer provides technical, programming, creative, and user experience design support for the creation and/or implementation of digital information systems created and/or acquired by the library in pursuit of its role in addressing the information and research needs of the UNC Charlotte community, as well as researchers outside the university.The designer works directly with stakeholders to coordinate the design and creation of graphic design products to support the work of Technology & Digital Strategies and the Marketing/Communication units of the library.

Minimum Education/Experience

The analyst band requires a foundation of knowledge and skills in area of specialization generally obtained from graduating from a four-year college or university with twelve semester hours in programming and two years of experience in business application consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties

– Performs conceptual ideation & art direction for assigned projects while ensuring a consistent look and feel according to standards and policies.

– Designs print layouts for flyers, brochures, booklets, posters, and other printed materials.

– Performs user interface design of web applications, incorporating usability, comprehensive work flows, and standards,

– Uses various tools to create graphical interfaces for web, rich client, and thick client applications.

– Analyzes user experience problems and creates design solutions that meet identified goals.

– Analyzes applications, data requirements, and rules, understanding the data flow from source to screen.

– Recognizes and predicts use cases and user interactions; designs intuitive applications to support them.

– Plans new and existing screens; creates sketches, conceptual diagrams, interaction flows, wireframes, mock-ups, and interactive prototypes.

– Maintains awareness of graphic design & UX trends, as well as peer and industry standards.

– Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Work Responsibilities

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Computer Science, Marketing, or related degree.

Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS , and Adobe Creative Suite.

Documented experience in graphic and web design.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience with Four Winds Interactive software.

Experience with Drupal CMS .

Experience with PHP .

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
