Title: Government Relations Coordinator

Description: This newly created position will provide support for the Government Relations program of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This position will work directly with Chamber committees in a support capacity, assisting in their management and operations.

Reports to: Vice President of Government Relations and President & CEO

Job Duties:

Assist with the legwork to create the Hollywood & Western and Route 66 business improvement districts (BID). And assists with programs and activities of the East Hollywood BID, including updates of the BID website and social media platforms.

  • Acts as staff to the Economic Development Committee by sending out notices, preparing agendas, coordinating speakers, and taking minutes.
  • Assists with planning for the Economic Development Summit in coordinating details and working with the co-chairs.
  • Conducts relevant research assignments for the various committees, with guidance from the committee co-chairs, President & CEO, and VP of Government Relations.
  • Acts as staff to the State of the Entertainment Industry Conference Committee by sending out notices, preparing agendas, and taking minutes.
  • Assists in coordinating meetings of the Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee, Health Care Committee, TEAM Hollywood Committee, Hollywood ED Collaborative, and business improvement district meetings.
  • Develops a program for the Chamber to facilitate Hollywood’s tech community, by researching and compiling a list of tech firms in Hollywood, developing a Hollywood HiTech blog, and other activities that would help to establish the Chamber as the business liaison with the tech community.
  • Attends and testifies at relevant community and civic meetings as assigned. Provides VP Government Relations with detailed written and oral summaries of hearings, press conferences, briefings, and resource materials.
  • Gains a broad understanding of the department so that in the absence of the V.P. of Government Relations, would be able to fill in if assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree required in political science, public administration or a related field. Related job or internship experience a plus.

  • Experience and familiarity with city, county, and state government operations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
  • Ability to analyze and revise operating practices to improve efficiency.
  • Detail oriented and comfortable at multi-tasking in order to handle several committees and projects at one time.
  • Exceptional communications and writing.
  • Comfort and proficiency in public speaking is a requirement.
  • Ability to work well with volunteers.
  • Superior organization skills and dedication to completing projects in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of how to do research in support of committee goals/projects.
  • Ability to follow through on assignments without close supervision.
