GIS Data Analyst -CA – including Glendale

Position Summary

Seeking highly-motivated and results-driven GIS Analyst that can apply necessary skills which result in the creation of high quality GIS maps for internal/external consumption. Individual will work through full GIS map creation life cycle: GIS data acquisition to GIS map creation. This requires the candidate to be responsible for performing in-depth data analysis and data manipulations to achieve desired results. Candidate will also need to demonstrate a customer service oriented aptitude as this skill is necessary in all aspects of the job
Duties
  • Research and identify GIS data sets, interacting with external entities to acquire needed items
  • Work with appropriate internal groups to obtain payment for purchase of data when necessary
  • Document information learned from research and acquisition tasks
  • Utilize database query skills to analyze GIS data for assessment and completeness
  • Manipulate and transform data sets to facilitate appropriate setup for maps; Python scripting heavily used
  • Review output of work performed for quality and accuracy
  • Cross collaborate with teams to confirm quality and accuracy of resulting maps
  • Document nuances derived from work performed
  • Re-acquire new GIS data sets at specified frequencies to ensure the information is up to date
  • Query and identify changes in GIS data between old and current data sets
  • Responsible for the escalation and resolution of data issues
  • Make process and/or system improvement recommendations to ensure workflow efficiencies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Previous experience with ESRI Arc GIS (Suite 10.x) is preferable but not required

  • Proficiency in standard office software, such as MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases a plus
  • Database querying and Python programming experience and knowledge (Strong ad-hoc SQL query development skills)
  • Demonstrated experience with data manipulation and analysis
  • Ability to analyze data presented in various formats
  • Attention to detail and desire for data quality
  • Ability to be creative and innovative in both problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to gather and interpret information to develop, recommend and implement solutions
  • Ability to thrive in both team and individual environments, while demonstrating abilities of being a self-starter
  • Excellent time-management skills that facilitate working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills in dealing with employees or external vendors
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service oriented qualities while working with any internal or external entity

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required; Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred
