FISCAL SPECIALTY CLERK – Range 16 / APD

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current contract between the Municipality of Anchorage and the APDEA. If the person selected is not affiliated with the APDEA union, he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Police Department (APD)
HOURS OF WORK: 9/80’s with every other Friday off

LOCATION OF WORK: 4501 Elmore Road, Anchorage, AK

Example of Duties:

Receive, open, sort and prepare invoices for payment for the department through automated payment systems. Track all expenses for Budget units, Travel and Educational expenses. Train new and old employees in the procedures for Department purchases. Applies and ensure compliance with terms and conditions of contracts, policies, rules, and procedures appropriate to the specific position. Answer inquiries from management, employees, and the general public. Examine documents and performs and verifies calculations for various purposes. Complete forms, process documents, enter and track data, produce reports, maintain files. Coordinate and schedule personnel and/or facilities. Perform office support functions as required, including, but not limited to, data entry, typing, filing, answering phones, and responding to requests for information. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in office clerical, personnel, payroll, accounting, or administrative support of which one (1) year must be as a Police Clerk with the Anchorage Police Department or equivalent elsewhere.

Preferences:

  • Preference for applicants with prior public safety setting experience.
  • Preference for applicants with extensive experience in accounting related duties such as processing invoices and payments.
  • Preference for applicants with prior experience tracking budget, purchasing, and travel expenses.
  • Preference for applicants with experience utilizing strict compliance with government vendor contracts and agreements.

Additional Important Information:

Preference will be given to Anchorage Police Department (APD) employees. APD employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-APD applicants.

Passing results of the Nelson-Denny Reading Comprehension exam are valid for one year from the date of the tests. The test scores/results may be used when applying for other positions within APD. Current APD employees are exempt from the Nelson-Denny Reading Comprehension exam.

If selected for hire, appointment to this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory passing an extensive background and financial check, and a drug screen.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) security clearance and access, and also FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance and access within six (6) months of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these clearances and accesses within six (6) months of hire, he/she will be terminated.
