Financial Analyst

Under direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (MSO), the Financial Analyst has responsibility for $10M budget and finance activities of The Preuss School UCSD to include forecasting, internal controls, and public reporting. Determine revenue and its allocation, including federal and state appropriations, donations, endowments, facility rental, and student activities/clubs. Prepare financial reports for external agencies and annual audits.

Utilizes a variety of computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Integrated Financial Information System (IFIS), and FinancialLink. Determine appropriateness of expenditures, availability of funds and applicable funding restrictions. Represent Preuss financial activities at a variety of internal and external meetings. Approve payments in compliance with university and funding agency guidelines. Provide fund analysis, monthly budget status reports, and fund closeout reports. Occasional back-up payroll and transaction reviewing.

  • Must plan to work June and July due to commencement and fiscal year end closing.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with accounting principles and audit preparation .
  • Experience investigating, comprehending and compiling financial, budgetary and program data for award administration compliant with auditing and reporting requirements .
  • Experience reviewing accounts, balance funds, provide projections, and making recommendations on short and long-term projects.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of development, proposal preparation and public relations in an academic setting .
  • Graduation from college with a major in business administration, economics, statistics, educational administration, political science, or an allied field, and two (2) years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience .
  • Demonstrated skill to prioritize and concentrate on workload in order to meet deadlines.
  • Proven interpersonal skills to interact flexibly and diplomatically with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external agencies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills: Skill in assessing problem areas and identification of viable solutions.
  • Ability to embrace and practice UCSD’s Principles of Community including the commitment to strive to maintain a climate of fairness, cooperation and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must pass/clear background check (Livescan) and tuberculosis (TB) screening.
